Maybe the theory behind it, is that the more senior your get, the more valuable you will be to other organizations. As a way to keep you around, your comp. goes up.

Depends on your use case. I have a DVI->HDMI cable I lug around in my bag to hook my laptop up to HDTV displays at offices, etc.

Honest questions: a) Are equally powerful android devices really cheaper? b) Does Android have any form of 'policy' or 'corporate' control capability like IOS devices do? I've not seen anybody talking about 'b' anywhere, but I honestly have

I think beta testing is shipping. Nobody expects perfection right out of the gate - even Apple and Google and Microsoft still get that wrong. I think the key is getting it out of your hands, and into others, as soon as possible. Maybe yo

Using fancy characters to check off some made up list is just as 'fluff'. Do you disagree with what he is saying? If so, why? Just listing shit like that is worthless. Back your thoughts up - alternate points of view that can be justifie

I think it's meant the 'flood tide', not the lunar tide - the annual flood tide when the rivers and streams are engorged from snow melt over the winter.

Those people sometimes bring along a 'straight man'. I end up doing this all the time - the hypothetical boss just wants to drink for free and oogle pretty girls, and I talk to the sales engineer/sales guy. On the plus side, it keeps th

Conference booths are to collect leads, in general. Not to 'close'. I'd expect the bottom of the barrel there - they only need to get your name/swipe your card, and then you get turned over to the top notch sales people.

They're not for you. They're for the huge majority of bozos, who, unlike you, are only at the conference because it's a junket and some free time away from work. Eye candy is a huge plus.

You realize that reddit is one of the most visited sites on the Internet now, right? It's not the little lisp-hackers, YC-funded, nerd-centric community that it started as, and it will never be that again. 19M uniques tends to alter thi

That sort of thing should specifically not be required to cater to. It's an absolutely voluntary set of restrictions. Jews can just go elsewhere. Just like, as a vegetarian, I can't get much to eat at Ruth's Chris or The Outback or whatev

Hell, for DOD systems on secure networks, you're required to remove all of the non-DOD root CAs. No DigiNotar or GoDaddy or the hundreds of others allowed.

You board first as first class, because you have time to put your suit jacket up, and get your first free beverage, before they have to confiscate the cups for takeoff. If you boarded last, you'd get no pre-takeoff beverage to sooth your ne

I had thought about something like this, sort of a combination of karma scores and netflix/pandora-style recommendations for ranking user content on sites like HN. I could say 'I like what tptacek has to say' and give your content a higher

Websense doesn't break TLS or SSL or PKI. Websense abuses an organizations control over their own workstations to conduct a 'mitm' or 'proxy' of the TLS connection. It does that in a fairly straight forward manner. Websense is used in org

Coupled with the purchase of EDS and the hiring of a CEO from SAP...I think it's safe to say that they're now an enterprise IT services and software firm.

The Core i5/i7 line of CPUs is currently the top of the line. Of course it uses the 'mobility' model, but it's still the current top of the line. $1199 ($50/100 off if you're a student) as configured. Show me another laptop with it's form

The Air is actually really well done. It's a Core i5/i7 (current top of the line), 4GB of RAM, and with a new Intel HD3000 graphics chip, which is able to play TF2 full screen at a usable framerate. I've never used another laptop with em
