Even if the code can't break out, be aware of other issues of non-fully virtualized multi-tenancy: https://www.cs.unc.edu/~reiter/papers/2014/CCS1.pdf

Understand that there isn't 'An S3 service'. There are multiple S3 services in multiple Regions within AWS, and they're all operated independently of each other (this goes for all other AWS services too) so that cascadi

Depends on how many of your companies shares are held by the current board and management team... Nothing breaks a company faster than switching out senior leaders every few months.

I, uh, don't know how I got that either (must have fat fingered in calc). I was talking about all in one 8 hour deal though. Thanks for the clarification.

Is your message handling a linear deal over the month? They may process 1.5M of those in the last 8 hours of the day, which would be 3750 requests a second instead...

You dramatically misunderstand VPC. Everybody on AWS today uses VPC, unless you happened to be grandfathered in to EC2 'classic'. There is NO COST to using VPC (aside from admin over head maybe?). It's a huge security upgrad

The 'calorie count' website score is about the healthiness of the meal, not the quality of meat. McNuggets are the same chicken, just with way more breading, and therefore more fat/salt/etc., so 'less healthy'

The alternative is what we have in infosec: the folks in charge of 'cyber' in the govt don't have a clue, because they have no background or connections to the 'industry' or technology at all. And it's a total

Metadata collection is only bad when it's the Government doing it! FWIW: I've not received anything but EFF-related spam from EFF to the email address I used to donate to them back in the day. Not sure about ACLU.

You don't chose who provides the electrons coming over your poles in the VAST Majority of locations (some folks run substations to multiple grids, but even then, are talking to the whole other grid, not a single power company). Deregul

You don't actually chose between providers, you get the same electricity. You simply choose who gets your cash from all the generators on the local grid. It's not like they run new wires to your house or that your house gets a sp

You chose who you pay, but do they run separate cabling to your house? Or are you buying power from 'the grid'?

The VA system detects how many cars are waiting to ensure that as many as possible make it through in a cycle (up to a limit), not detecting them as they are inbound to keep the light green.

Do you get to chose between electricity providers? I wonder how big AWS gets before it becomes a regulated utility and 'critical infrastructure' (they hate that question, btw).

The future AWS is driving towards is where they are the power generation company that nobody has onsite either (except for very rare circumstances). You might keep some temporary capacity / backups locally, but you'll depend on th

Shaving 1ms off of every single request can have a larger overall impact than optimizing queries/etc. that are not used for every. single. request. I'm not saying I agree, but just one possible answer.

I'm guessing that the people using this, and order-everything-online are relatively price insensitive for the types of things this appears to be targeting. Saving $0.30 or even $1-2 probably isn't going to make it worth it for me
