I'm semi-technical, in that I can't code anything functional from scratch, but I can do a bunch of development related tasks, including write CSS, manage the server (SSH, virtualmin, whatever), poke around the SQL database to add/edit field

Private betas should only be used for products/businesses that really require private betas. I'm thinking that most startups don't really require private periods. We just go public and promote and see what happens.

This was my sentiments as well. The market for sharing sounds just isn't popular imo. Adapt the site to mobile video and try to figure that out perhaps?

On a side note, does anyone know how bad it is for your name and reputation if the company has to go bankrupt and go through that process? Will he get gray listed for future incorporations, background checks and such?

Wow, $9k for marketing. I hope this kid is a marketing whiz and has a helluva good product. Otherwise this is going to be a costly lesson. Although to be fair, I've lost just as much as money if not more in my teenage entrepreneurial journe

lol, the kid is doing it all wrong, he shouldn't need capital for anything. The tables should be made to order. All this will do is sink his business in inventory.

I don't think you're targeting the right markets. I don't think anyone would ever want to use something for the purpose of explaining how they would pronounce a word. Its educational in a way, but not really "fun". You need to adjust your p

Hi Scott, thanks a lot for the reply, great points. I think our link spider is a lot better than Tumblrs, and will show better, more accurate posts through a vary of URLs. As for differentiation, we think comments will be a big difference o

still figuring that out. I think we're lighter and easier to post with. We also don't offer any blogging tools other than pasting links. We think we can do comments and content discovery better.

Hi Joshu, 1) How aggressive are you in getting deals done? Are you more like "lets have a chat, sign here" or more like "okay, call me if you ever need funding."? 2) I'm actually working on a site similar to Delicious, http://www.howl.com

I'm receiving your comments well, I appreciate it :) I'm not defensive or anything, I enjoy reading peoples thoughts. I tend not to worry about huge costs so early into the project. We can find a way to monetize if we ever get that big. I t

Hi Daniel, thanks for your reply. I'm not sure Howl targets business people/entrepreneurs in any such way. Its more of a "for fun" thing, for posting and sharing interesting links. Sure you could use google docs and dropbox, but those aren'

Interesting thoughts. What makes you think we'd have a lot of costs? We hotlink and embed most of the content from other sites, so really, even our bandwidth costs are low. I'm not sure its really a longshot at all. Its obvious people love

Thanks. You won't have to pay for the service, it would be free. As for accomplishing the same stuff, here's a bit of rationale we went through when planning it. Delicious: not social, can't comment, doesn't embed videos/images into posts,

Thanks, we plan on more integration so that a post on howl automatically goes onto your FB/Twitter. We're also stealing Tumblr's reblog feature, so people can repost good links onto their blog from other people.

Yep, the technicals would have to be hammered out, but imagine the comments page that also shows, "People who also posted this", and lists the users. Also the ability to 1 click repost to your account to repost it on your blog.

Hi Bones, you're right, we're the same as a lot of services, we looked at the way Digg, Reddit, Stumble Upon, Delicious, Facebook Links, Tumblr, etc., work and we decided to focus on an area none of them focus on. I like sharing links, I po

Hi, thanks for the reply. What you see now is obviously early and I noticed you didn't actually try the service, so I would say try it! The upside is the space we can evolve into: link and content discovery (like a feed of posts), unifying
