I always feel so disconnected to my fellow humans when I hear people longing for "simpler times" where they are just out in nature with no technology or modern tools. I would be miserable living simply like that. I don't like

This is still the case. You can absolutely buy computers without an OS, but most people don't want that so they aren't quite as easy to find. Here is an HP without an OS: https://www.newegg.com/p/1VK-001E-4UPC

I have bought many computers that have Windows installed, they have all been trivial to replace with Linux installs. On almost all of them, I never even booted into windows once. Was it wasted money going to Microsoft? I don't know, I

Are you suggesting that you never know if the computer you are buying has windows on it or not? This is not the same thing at all. These computers all advertise that they come with Windows. It isn't like when you buy it, you have a 5%

It's also in this very announcement, in the first paragraph: > Before release, we tested GLM-5.3-Flash anonymously as ox-alpha on OpenCode and OpenRouter to gather user feedback. It quickly became the most popular model of the week

The entire point of this comment chain is that Apple makes great hardware but they don’t like the OS. Buying a Dell laptop doesn’t get you the 256 GB GPU.

Those are all third party services that decided to stop shipping Intel releases for their Mac software. That isn’t Apple’s fault.

$7000 of that is for the 16tb of storage. That is certainly not worth it if you are trying to save money.

That is 1% of adults being CURRENTLY locked up, not people who have ever been locked up in their life. That means the stat already factors in how long they are in for.

And yet your prisons are full of people in jail for marijuana related crimes. Because putting people in prison for weed does not stop people smoking weed.

That isn’t what the tragedy of the commons is. It isn’t about something inherent in having a shared resource that dooms it. It is about the idea that when there is a limited, shared public resource, individuals making rational self-interest

The United States is certainly part of the west, and we incarcerate people at a higher rate than any other advanced nation, BY FAR. The idea that we are soft on crime is insane. Harsher punishments do not lead to lower crime.

The US “locks people up” at a much higher rate, and for longer, than Japan does. About 1% of the adult population is in jail in the United States, and it’s about 0.03% of the population in Japan. The US puts people in jail at 30x the rate J

You don’t need it to delete anything, anyway. The encrypted second partition is indistinguishable from random data, so you don’t need to delete it.
