In the UK (at least in my anecdotal experience, I know people in London, Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire) it seems there's hardly any money to be made in selling weed any more. I'm sure further up the chain there is, but at actual

It doesn't even imply that liquor is a drug specifically, as opposed to containing a drug. And in the context it's perfectly acceptable to use "drugs" to refer to illegal recreational drugs.

The definition improves if you add "and is created for that purpose", though maybe still not without holes. As an example of your kids' mess, check out Tracey Emin's 'My Bed' [1], it's basically just a mes

That's not the case, because the main BBC websites (e.g. bbc.co.uk) serve the same content to UK and non-UK visitors, with adverts showing to the latter, so they could easily do that on this site too.

Personally I found it interesting and thought-provoking, which is what I want from HN content. If I'd read the article outside HN it probably wouldn't have occurred to me to submit it here, but I'm happy that somebody did. ed

As long as it's not a device with a non-removable battery (such as iPhone), I'd be fine with that. If I could recharge my blackberry in 30 seconds I'd have no problem buying a new battery every 6 months.

I don't follow F1, but surely with anything that's going to give a team a big competitive advantage, a.) there always has to be a line between "haven't used" and "have now used" and b.) to delay other team

In my experience it's actually rarely used negatively (ymmv of course) - I only really hear it when the context is "these people (the boffins) do something about which I don't understand", so it's almost self-deprec

To be fair to him, a thread all about which team is dominating F1 is the kind of place on HN that I would expect to see races discussed. Not sure that shouldve taken you by surprise! Anyway, sounds like the race was good enough for you to

It seems to be that way in much of the world - I don't have much knowledge on the topic outside of the UK, but a month or so ago when I was waiting for the new Blackberry OS update to roll out, I had to wait over a month for my network

He still said "most" within the sub-group of reasonably intelligent people, not "all". You may disagree with that claim, but one person not fitting into "most" means nothing.

Total attendance is a poor metric for judging popularity between such different sports, such as MLB (162 games a season for each team) and NFL (16? 18?). But equally average attendance doesn't work for the same reason.

I think it's the fact that you know the price floor is pre-meditated. When you negotiate with someone you feel like you are both compromising, whereas in this case you know they've already decided what their fair price is, and are
