In the UK, employee or customer owned businesses are a mixed bag. We have some very good ones (John Lewis, Nationwide) and some bad ones (the Co-op group). I think whether or not a business is employee owned is less important for success th

Not sure why I'm being down voted. My understanding is the system works better (at least for currency X to currency Y transactions) the more trusted local currency gateways exist in the network. So if using stellar on the backend makes

Awesome! Would be great if they began offering unlimited alerts in some countries other than the US & Canada (the UK would be a good place to start!).

Too early to tell if Stella will work but their intentions appear good and the underlying concept solid. Was very surprised though that there isn't a single advisor to the board who's career has been in finance or banking. Seems t

Can't you just use the monthly tables published by HMRC for the exchange rate (IIRC, packages like Xero do this automatically for you?). For the reverse charge, wouldn't that always just balance out i.e. input and output tax are a

I'm working on the assumption that if they suddenly started offering services in GBP, they'd price at £5 rather than $5 (like virtually all companies do). Meaning the same service would end up costing £2/month more than it do

That doc is dated 2003 so I guess the regs have changed (and there have been some pretty major changes recently like CA2006 and FA2011). I certainly don't get VAT invoices from the US suppliers I use (linode and digital ocean for examp

Yeah, I'm talking for retail customers who don't have a VAT number and can't benefit from the reverse charge scheme.

On the other hand, one of the nice things with using US services that bill in USD (apart from the current exchange rate benefit) is there's no VAT to pay. So, UK retail customers at least, get a 20% discount compared to using home grow

Nope, never. If a vm needs permanently moving from one core to another (which would be unusual for us), we just spin it down and dd the lvm volumes for that guest via ssh and then change the mac. It helps that we don't filter on mac. T

My naming system is pretty similar. Infrastructure consists of a handful of big beefy machines that then each host anywhere from 4 to 12 single purpose guest vms. For the beefy host machines, I just go with core-a, core-b, core-c etc plus a
