He said it was a resourcing issue, they didn't have the resources to patch every phone and considered every option. Except, it seems... paying for more resources? I'm just glad to be on a Galaxy Nexus with OTA updates direct from Google. Ev

I kind of like that it has no external surface. I'd even consider removing the keyhole if it worked well and just having a perfectly smooth door. (would have to auto close the door and have a deadbolt snib thing)

I thought about doing it in scala too but I thought there might be issues with grading, do you know if there's an auto-grader for this course?

I feel like he makes some serious assumptions in this article. One that you need to put each service on a different server, and two that you need to connect each service to a different database. For a small/medium/large/whatever app you can

In Australia (and presumably the rest of the world?), it's never the fault of the driver who was rear ended. Everyone else is expected to maintain a safe distance in case the driver needs to perform an emergency stop. Actually I remember he

Just out of interest, were the old guard who refused to learn the (non-IT) systems engineers? I've had similar experiences with senior engineers and am trying to work out how (or whether) the field should be saved

It's interesting that the threat signal can be subconscious, ie you notice a threat but the signal isn't strong enough to cross over your conscious threshold. But if the computer notices the same thing it will act. Pretty kurzweilian in tha

It's easy to run a small team of talented people, it's an entirely different ball game to run a company with 20,000 people Same with systems. A small team of hackers can work wonders on certain problems with no methodology and some TDD, but

Andrew Ng's course ideally excellent, he's a very good lecturer. I'm liking this course too, it's really about functional programming more than Scala. He says in the first lecture that the curriculum is mostly from a well known book on sche

Java is horrible for prototyping, it's designed for large environments where management of complexity (through interfaces and some level of top down design) is desirable. It's not a hacker language. PG makes a very good point though - that

It's been around for a while. I think the idea is that it's only for appengine apps, and even then only when a relational database is really useful. I think the key use case is admin/reporting on the back end, with noSQL on the front for sc
