Here's one for Sizes: "How big would the map on the BBC Dimensions website look on your monitor?" (answer - a small rectangle about 10% of the screen's size that can't be made bigger, partially obscured by a big textbox).

Lawks, it must suck to work in a factory where scented water is puffed onto doilies by baby deer with adorable eyes (I am guessing). But seriously - "motherfuckinglasers.com" didn't alert you?

Ironically, the irony punctuation mark shows up as a square on all browsers that I try. (yes I know - that's not actually ironic).

I don't think this would make a huge difference to me, as I don't subscribe to enough feeds in GR for it to make a big difference to how I'd use it. Also, speaking of unread flags [grating record scratch sound] I wrote a Chrome extension to

I am guessing it's because motorcycles are capable of going faster, accelerating quicker, so people go faster on them and tend to drive more aggressively. I'd say, at the same speeds, a motorcyclist is much more likely to be injured than a

I wouldn't ride a motorbike for just this reason. I wonder what the corresponding stats are for mopeds. It's a truism that some [young] reckless motorcyclists ride machines that are too powerful for them to control. Mopeds, not so much I'd

Surely, for Hacker News, a more suitable headline would be "Study shows iPhone users more likely to suffer from viruses than Android users".

I have to disagree. If an official puts up a barrier and tells you to pay him to pass through it, but you can easily walk round the barrier, do so. It's his job to make the barrier more difficult to get round. I would say that there ought t

I'd call it 'gaming the system' rather than 'fraud', but am not a lawyer. @maushu, the real solution here is to get rid of the dumb trade barriers in the first place. The 'problem' of dodging round them pales into insignificance in comparis

Here's the clue to why doing this made sense: "But import duties greatly reduced the profit margins of importers." It's as if the shoes were smuggled into India in plain sight. Presumably the cost of buying the 'useless' shoes at auction ca

I'm afraid I don't see where you have successfully linked service-reliant economies with debt. There may be a correlation - I haven't looked at the data, but is A a cause of B?

International law does cover treatment of civilians during conflicts, but I'm afraid you are wrong - international law doesn't automatically class any and all civilian deaths as war crimes. This is pretty basic stuff.

People in the developing world suffer from injustices, but it's silly to argue that this is a hidden cost of Nuclear. If the reserves were in a developed country they would be mined as cheaply and more safely. And don't forget 'the hidden c

Here in the UK, you can also harm the environment and emit carbon by buying a windmill from the DIY store and sticking it on your roof. People are mostly doing it for the 'cool factor' since they tend not to generate much power at all. I'm
