At 500 remotes, I'm planning to flash them myself. And I just called a bunch of factories to get quotes on box build assembly, wood machining, PCBA, and injection molding. It just took time to work on the manufacturing quotes.

Thank you for your kind words. I really tried hard to capture what was years of work into just the salient pain points and design lessons.

Yep, this is exactly what I wanted when I was starting out. I just had the resources and time to write everything done as I went through it in the hopes that other people take it and can make even better tools and open source docs.

Hello HN! This is a ridiculously long but thorough guide to building your own hardware on a budget. Turn Touch is a small wood remote that controls your smart home. I built it because I wanted it to exist and I was tired of waiting for some

Those European commercial forests are cut at a younger age than these tropical plantations, as these plantations are growing far denser wood than European sycamore, beech, and alder wood. Usually any plantation grown wood will be certified

That's an unfair reading of my comment. And as others have mentioned below, I'm invested in thinking about how to sustainably grow wood because I'm commercially invested.

I simply have experience in the subject because I've spent the last three years researching ways to make woodworking more sustainable. And driving up demand will in turn drive up supply, and as I explained above increased supply does i

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I have a bit of a history with art projects, in fact. Among other projects, I built and blogged a big interactive biofeedback art piece at Burning Man 2014 called Pulse & Bloom that hit HN

Hah, that was my decision last minute. We had anticipated a fitness section outside but I forgot to prep the actors with the right clothes. Then it rained and we had a ridiculous scene that thankfully only took a small part of the shoot.

I'm running a Kickstarter for a wood product right now and so I've learned a thing or two about how to encourage reforestation. The answer is get economics to drive reforestation. Cats, cows, turkeys, dogs, and horses, among many

NewsBlur has an organizer that provides this exact info. Just sort of last update (or even stories per month) and mass delete. It's somewhat new but it makes a world of a difference. The organizer is on web and just launched on iOS.

I like to leave little hints for those who try. But you also don't know what it looks like yet. That's going to be quite the reveal.

How much are you paying per in^2 to have Sunstone fab a board? Are you paying for assembly? OSH Park, as used in the article, is only $10/in^2 for 4-layer.
