Thanks for sharing! This is the first time I saw a mention of WTF-8 [1] and WTF-16. From the spec description this seems strange to use this interoperability "hack" (using the word from the spec) as the foundation of the string pr

Performance of the TypeScript compiler has greatly improved in the last versions. The future isolated declaration mode promises great improvements: until 75% of reduction in compilation time! [0] [0] https://github.com/micro

No, the tag is only part of the union. The tag is deterministically and globally computed by the compiler. Tags are encoded in a fixed number of bytes.

You are right. This result of the modeling of tagged unions in terms of enums. Hare [0] avoids this issue by using global tags: every type has a unique global tag. This allows merging tagged unions. [o] https://harelang.org

If I am not wrong, there is a generation number embedded in the reference (smart pointer?). This allows to check if the generation of the reference and the generation of the referee match.

I keep wondering what "safe" means in the context of generational references. If I understand clearly, this prevents use-after-free and double-free? Thus, the program can still fail on a memory access when the expected and actual
