The safest neighborhood in Chicago wrt police if you ask me is Hyde Park. This is of course if you are affiliated with the university. You get a free pass there because the police are paid extra to pamper.

I use my Sega Saturn with RGB Scart and a custom line doubler (for use with a modern TV). I actually find the mesh to be a charming SS feature if you will. Very cool article.

Someone drops the c-bomb in the title thinking it will appeal to a technical audience (because like math is like calculus right? and like poker is like math right?) then rambles about watching an online course and going to a casino. Not sup

If you are just starting out with applied machine learning I would focus heavily on understanding bias and variance as it will really help you succeed. It's I think what (largely) separates the sklearn kiddies from the pros.

I was off to the side once at ORD when I overheard a few TSA employees talking. The first said something that prompted the second to say "You the man!" to which the first quickly responded "No, I'm not, if I were, I woul

This is nice. If this topic is of interest, I highly recommend spending some time with Do Carmo's differential geometry. Particularly Gauss-Bonnet (pg 264) as it is possibly the most profound result for surfaces. http://www.

I just left a 3 story walk up with central air and I can say the during the summer the large roof mounted AC units (technically split systems as you describe them) drove me absolutely insane. The humming caused by multiple machines running

It's risk of a person's time, which is obviously a finite resource for each of us. Those with less privilege typically need to spend that time addressing immediate financial imperatives rather than focusing on delayed financial or

The title is advertising, which I won't hold against the author, but the message certainly isn't a bad one. In fact it's one of the factors I value the most when working with statisticians and data scientists.

Hmm, I've always thought that communication filtered and manipulated by corporate incentive was the most depressing part of Facebook. It looks like there are other reasons to find Facebook depressing.

I don't think the post does an adequate job of why-not-linux. A distro like arch would be a natural choice for someone leaving OSX for a clean open-source (but pre-free) lifestyle, so I was surprised to see it (or something similar) no

This is an interesting point. I actually view privacy efforts circa 2015 as attempts to bring information leakage back to small community (tribe-like) proportions. I.e. my personal information is at risk of leaking to at most a handful of p
