This entire thread seems a bit silly. 1) Average comp for a senior (not principal) engineer at FAANG is 350-400k, not 200k. 2) It's much easier to get a job at FAANG and get promoted to senior (or get a job elsewhere and hop to FAANG l

This is the correct answer. To put it another way, US companies are more productive (in the economic sense) than EU companies, and that gap is even wider for tech companies (& those that rely heavily on employing software engineers).

This seems like it's incorrectly estimating orders of magnitude. Some actual numbers: In 2019, Google's gross revenue was ~$162b. ~$76b went to "costs of revenue", ~$26b went to R&D, and ~$11b to stock-based compens
