MSFT were the masters of this technique (spin off a startup, acquire it after it proves viable) for decades, but sadly they stopped. Even internal to MS I worked on 2 teams that were 95% independent from the mothership, on one of them (Mic

Itch.io games and controller support. You have sites now that let you debug microcontrollers on your browser, super cool. Same thing but with firmware updates in the browser. Cross platform, replaced a mess of ugly broken vendor tools.

It is confusing because if the clock says 30 minutes left the game won't be over in 30 actual minutes. The actual time left in a game mine as well be RNG for all the meaning the clock has. Baseball doesn't have a clock and doesn&#

I just had Claude code convert all my personal projects over to be dockerized, and then setup the deployment infra and scripts for everything, and finally move my server off of the nightmare nginx config file I was using.

MP3s are tiny. Just download + cache the n and n+1 song. On a modern 4g or 5g connection downloading an entire song takes seconds. Anytime a new song starts up, grab the n+1 song as soon as possible. But aside from that, inside any metro ar

I'm a born American and I don't know the detailed rules to football. Baseball is conceptually easy though. Football seems super messed up with a clock that never seems to end and a game that is 90% commercial breaks.

Ok fair. Souls came with a lot of different engine models. The engine in my 2011 soul was pre-gdi and is rock solid stable basically forever. I also had a 2015 forte with the 1.6L turbo which is, from my understanding, also super reliable s

A 2012 Kia Soul will last until 200k miles. In the 2010s Kia used some good engines, with a couple notable exceptions (the highest end Stingers, etc). The issue is that all those Kias got stolen and trashed by Kia Boys. :( I had a 2011 Kia

The lockly model I have is the same, no cloud features. You can configure it using the keypad or using an app over BT, that is the primary difference between it and a completely self contained device.

Genuinely curious - What major flaws does TOML have? I've used it before and it seems like a simple no-nonsense config language. Plenty of blog articles about the flaws behind YAML, I don't really see complaints about TOML!

My Lockly lock supports a complete offline setup, no phone required to register finger prints or setup PIN codes. I believe I can even turn off the BT completely if I so desire. It is just exactly smart enough for my liking.
