An ex-collegue was into hacker rank style things. I saw him doing one and pointed out that it's the sort of stuff he will never use on the job. A lot of the stuff he builds is overengineered and he is more interested in producing cleve

How many programmers actually need to implement linked lists in day to day jobs? If they are doing that, then they are likely to be over engineering other parts of the system, when there is a well tested, documented library available.

I failed a interview for not remembering the internals of a hashmap. I learned that 20 years ago in university and have honestly never needed to consider it since then. I work with databases, servers and web apps. I was actually surprised a

I tried Rust a while ago (I do mainly Python) but not for long enough to get my head around it (the borrow checker). Is it now past the peak hype cycle, or do people still love it?

I have a system full of reinvented wheels to keep running (going to try and replace them with more standard solutions). The dev has now left but he would always insist that the existing solutions didn't meet every need. There was alway

If you "carefully select your sources" then you aren't training on "random images from the web". If you are using random images from the web, there is a decent chance that you will get a result like this. https:&#x

My company had all of those rolled into one. Thankfully he burned himself out with the technical debt that he had created and quit. He was smart and could probably beat me at hacker rank type challenges. I know to focus on maintainability o

I had a pleasant interview experience one time, that avoided a number of those problems. I was asked to bring in my laptop with some code I had written. I did, we talked about it. The interviewer asked me to add a simple feature. It's

I get where you are coming from, but ORMs are very useful for inserting and updating data, a lot more efficient than writing SQL. Sure for complex queries it's a different story.

Do you believe the story about Epstein hanging himself? Because its the same examiner that was hired by Floyds family. Didn't have access to the body.
