I wouldn't blame customers when the pricing for data transfer looks like this: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/open-guides/og-aws/master/... (Source Open Guide to AWS - https://github.com&#x

I wrote a ton of COBOL (mainframe and MicroFocus COBOL on AIX) back in the day in my early IT career (late 90s, early 2000s) around the Y2K conversion. It was a fun language because you could pick up someone else's code and be product

This is great news for Caddy. I have worked with Ardan Labs in the past and they are a terrific organization with some incredibly talented engineers.

With models that large you would be paying for GitHub's LFS credits. Those aren't cheap as I recall. Napkin math at $5/50GB of bandwidth per month for 45TB per day it would cost them $135k/mo to use Github. That's

Surprisingly there are reasons why running financial type systems in COBOL makes a lot of sense. Evidently COBOL really excels at foxed point decimal operations more so than other “modern” languages like Python and Java. Porting then off t

Actually, Google professes in their "BeyondCorp" security model a zero-trust architecture. You shouldn't be assuming that just because your instance isn't publicly accessible that it is secure. (See: https://

I rented a house on Martha's Vineyard one time and the owner had a company come in and fence off the backyard and put a bunch of pigs in there to clear it out. It was heavily overgrown with grass, brush, small trees, and shrubs. In a

Keep in mind that a lot of the people that are running mainframes now have been running them for many years (think 1980s), and there was no alternative that could run at the scale / speed / throughput that the mainframe can. So m

AWS spot instances for gpu can have availability issues as well or sometimes be priced higher than on demand (still trying to understand that one). If you do choose to run spot at aws (gpu or otherwise) be sure to check out the excellent p

Not ready to give Mazda any praise for their infotainment systems. I leased a 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve a couple months ago. Had I known how bad Mazda’s UX was I would have leased something else. First off their system takes an eterni

Such a shame. I've worked with a couple of Anki's former DevOps engineers (lucky to have been able to hired one) and they are top notch. My gut tells me that AI toys weren't the end game, since it's such a low margin sp

Any ideas what the process would look like for something like Solution Architect for Google Cloud? I can’t imagine that there would be graphs and tree coding questions but you never know.

Why would the study want to target "the healthiest employees on the planet"? That would bias the study. Seems to me they chose a random company (that would agree to participate) with average workers. The whole point would be to

I would suppose that you could do similar attacks if someone used AWS S3 as a static site backend, then deleted the bucket, since S3 bucket names are global across all AWS accounts. It would be very difficult to find a target, since it see

MA already had laws statewide mandating bike lanes on new construction and renovation. This has led to the situation near my house where a highway intersection (Route 1 and 495) was rebuilt and a bike lane added for about 1000 feet on a roa
