Advertising is really lucrative. MS wants to get a bigger share of the pie, and that's done by driving people to use Bing. Also, if Bing Chat gets people used to using AI chatbots for search, that dramatically increases the cost of del

They have a OneNote feed sidebar now, too. Actually great for quick notes during browsing. Except that it's part of Edge, which is a privacy disaster full of dark patterns.

I feel like there are two Microsofts. There are parts that make some honestly good software. And then there are parts touched by Bing and MSN, and they're some of the most hideous, dark patterny piles of user hostile garbage. Win11 sea

Usually high resource use - more RAM use, using the processor more while idling, etc. and usually poorer integration into the OS in terms of look and feel and in terms of actual integrations. eg. native Outlook - ~200-250MB RAM use, same em

> Any bread in the normal isle that you can buy and have on your counter for over a week, where it still looks and feels and tastes the same is an abomination. Sourdough does exist and keeps well.

It's not even it being opinionated, it's being _so hideously_ opinionated. Windows is a pretty good spot, IME - KDE is a little much, macOS maybe a smidge too little, but GNOME just feels like a straitjacket.

Switch to Microsoft? OneNote's entire file format is built to enable live collaboration. Their apps may be a bit clunky but they work.

Yes, but comparatively lightweight for being one. The devs don't use large frameworks like React and write pretty barebones JS. It shows.

Depending on what you value in Evernote, Notion may not be the best replacement.

Dendron is no longer developed, and in any case is intended for a very different use case than Evernote. Amplenote might be a better drop-in replacement.

I seriously wish you couldn't change fonts in it. OneNote itself defaults to 11pt Calibri, but the web clipper outputs 12pt Verdana because fuck you. And if you change the font to Verdana, page title font changes from 20pt Calibri Ligh

I only wish Microsoft showed it some actual love. The app's been languishing for years, and most any new feature is in the vein of "you can embed TikToks now" or something only applicable to a classroom setting. That, and whi

From what I've heard, the sync works well when everyone's using the same kind of client (eg. desktop, or web app). If they get mixed things become slowwe to update and have a decent chance to quickly go to hell.

Android actually lets you live without even having a default browser. It's great since you can use multiple browsers in place of multiple browser profiles. Apps will just ask what browser to open the link in. It's great.

Edge was, initially, Chrome but degoogled and it had (and still has) a lot of great UI innovations, like a vertical tab strip that's just right. Their wide use of hovering menus that can be pinned to become sidebars is honestly good st
