Mongodb queries are much easier to dynamically build than SQL. And this is so because Mongodb uses JSON for queries.

Yes i'm privileged now ... But I grew up in a shed and a caravan in regional QLD, Australia. Went to shitty public schools. Slowly I worked my way to Silicon Valley. It took a LOT of hard work running business in Australia to get the cash t

It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate when you're not paying attention. I had so much stuff and it didn't help me at all. It only prevented me from moving when I wanted. So I recently sold all my stuff, threw out all the rest and m

Marionette (a framework built on backbone) offers a nice solution. It still keeps things pretty light but does a lot of the groundwork you would normally have to do with backbone for you. Eg cleaning up event bindings, provides a region/vie

I'm glad we have Anonymous. I hope they bring a world of hurt to those involved in the rape and cover up.

That's great that you feel that way but a unit systems is suposed to efficiently communicate information. Using an archaic unit system because it makes you feel hipster isn't a good idea.

Compared to Queensland transport Muni is absolutely fantastic! There are many modes of public transport and it's everywhere. It's only $2 to ride and it's rare that you wait more than 5min for a bus or light rail. Other public transport in

It's about using the right tool for the job. Most developers never seem to understand that. Everyone seems to want the same magic bullet for everything.

Well Sinatra seems pretty nice. I'm a node.js developer so I use Restify and Express. But I practically build api's exclusively. I've spent a lot of time cleaning up after terrible Rails applications. Replacing bits that are too slow or dif

Sure. If you're building a traditional web app. The sort of web app Rails is good at. But if you are constructing an api, you can use ligher and alternate technologies that will get the job done faster and better.

If you're going to do API only apps then there are much better alternatives than Rails. Rails is heavy. It's like using a cruise ship to navigate a small creek.

Ghostery is fantastic. It takes a little while to get setup and maintain as you'll want to disable everything by default then reenable services when things don't work. But it's well worth the effort.

That would be impossible. How do you define and detect encrypted traffic? Sure it's possible to block a known encryption protocol such as https. But we would get creative if that happened.

I've had quiet a bit of experience provisioning machines on Joyent. 95% things work flawlessly, with 20-40 second boot times. However occasionally I'll get 10m+ boot times or machines that just fail to boot. Sounds like you got unlucky. Del

The library name is quite misleading. I was expecting extensions to the CoffeeScript language. But instead this is just a bunch of javascript functions written in coffeescript for use with JQuery. A better name might be "JQuery helpers". A

I'll tell you why. Because the c-libs probably block and having dependencies that have to be compiled increases the risk of something going wrong. Why should this library parse .ssh/config? This is an application level library. IMO it shoul

Exactly, CoffeeScript isn't an excuse for writing incomprehensible code. To make the OP assessment of CoffeeScript fair we would have to apply the same logic to Javascript its self. If we looked at any minimised JS code we would have to con

Fairly standard stuff. If you're going to have a title with "you're doing it wrong" you should have some unique insight to support your dramatised title.

I actually agree with #1. Code is the enemy of all codebases. Though i'm not arguing against the company culture that produces such productivity. It's just more a case of "with great power comes great responsibility".
