Consumer apps tend to have a short expected lifetime so technical debt doesn't tend to get to compound to the point of taking more time to maintain than it would have cost to do it properly in the first place. By that point if it'

I still don't see why Yahoo didn't stick to their original purpose of human powered search instead of buying up random companies to try anything. All they had to do was work out how to outsource the work to users. Why did they not

I'm not saying it's necessarily cause and effect but when the people developing the products are enthusiastic and proud of the product it certainly helps.

All they (the sales & marketing again) had to do was give devs time before opening their mouths and giving the impression that they are no longer pushing it, just as Sinofsky did with .Net and WPF. Windows phone apps were the most profi

That's so true. The 10x programmers are those that make everyone else's work faster and more accurate. To me the main job of a lead dev is setting up all the boring processes of build scripts, continuous deployment, package librar

I've always said sales (and marketing) was Microsoft's biggest problem. The are finally starting to be cool again as the engineers take over. The silo between Windows and development (Azure, .net etc) needs to come down fully to f

As someone who took part in the initial Ether offering I was curious about the DAO hype and thankfully saw right through the bubble of naive idealism and saw the fact that slockit was behind it as being very dubious. I used the hype to sell

Blockstream isn't competing with the blockchain. Their's is one solution to the problem and others are needed as well, the lightning network being another, which is a competitor. Competing off chain solutions to the scaling issue

There is a back log for short periods yes, but if you pay a high enough fee your transaction will go through earlier. When things quiet down or more blocks are mined in a given time the back log goes down. It's a supply and demand issu

There needs to be incentives to maintain things otherwise decentralized projects join that graveyard. Financial incentives are what lead to centralized web. If incentivised to maintain 'nodes' that might be prevented.

You're right in that the implicit bit extends all the way up the call stack. They aren't the same in practice, just in theory. That implicit parallel 'track' is useful in doing the Foo => Result<Foo, Error> for

In essence exceptions are an implicit variant (discriminated union) extension of the return type of a function. So a function returning T can actually return T or one of the set of Exception types.
