These days you can email a searchable PDF of your notebooks. I would guess you can extract these with simple tools, though I keep mine as PDF.

I also got enthusiastic about them, but I ended up embracing the Kindle Scribe. I just completed my 12th monthly notebook, so I’ve been at it for over a year now. I was using regular notebooks but I was collecting too many and I was worried

It’s also technically illegal, in many jurisdictions, for something to be “on sale” permanently. Though lots of retailers get away with it.

I have a bit of an internal struggle here. I use a site generator too but I struggle with the question, should I? I recently wrote about why I’m writing pure html and CSS in 2025. https://joeldare.com/why-im-writing-pure-htm

TIL. I agree with the other comments that say it's not discoverable. I've been using MacOS for 10 years and I didn't even know that "Force Click" is a thing. This comment caused me to look it up and then try it. I d

I think Next.js has its place in enterprise software. For the rest of us I think it's time to simplify. I like to do that to the point of absurdity. Why I'm writing pure HTML and CSS in 2025: https://joeldare.com/w

I find LLMs extremely useful but I think the difference is that they regurgitate the content (not verbatim) instead of a link to it. This is not unlike how a human might tell their friend about it.

I suspect this is the case for the majority of open source software. I have a handful of tiny projects. I don't think anyone will keep them alive after I die. But I guess we should make a distinction based on popularity or something. M

A long press of - should give it as an option as well. Mine auto translates it but I can’t recall if I added it or not.

I kinda wonder if this is an age thing as the English language morphs over time. I'm a bit old school, I like the XDG standard, but the arguments against "~/Library/Application Support" don't make sense to me.

That’s a weird hack today. Most phones seem to have a setting for it now. I have it on on my iPhone, it’s not “focus”, but I can’t recall how I turned it on. Only my favorites ring. Also, my phone is always on silent so I really mean “vibra

I geeked out a bit, after reading another blog post, and used my thermal printer for this. I've been using it for a few weeks now. The little sticky notes it makes are great. https://joeldare.com/trying-to-stop-procrast

I've hatched a plan to build a light-weight AI model on a $149 mini-pc and host it from my bedroom. I wonder if I could follow that up by buying a 3090 (jumping the price by $1000 plus whatever I plug it into) and contrasting the diffe

Like other posters said, maybe a local model is a good option. I've found the Qwen3:4B (reasoning) model works pretty well for many things. I'm planning to run a local model on a $149 mini-pc and host it for the world from my bedr

I'm glad to see this was a bug of some sort and (hopefully) not a full RAM limitation. I've used quite a few of these models on my MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM. I also have a plan to build an AI chat bot and host it from my bedroo

Many rural areas have no cellular service. I vacation in an area where Satellite, landline phone service, and some very bad DSL service are the only options. Since it's a vacation spot, we opt not to use the internet there, but there a

I once worked for a company that went from 100k annually to over $1B in under a year. I was 18 and they gave me a corporate card and almost no particular restrictions on its use. I thought they were a bozo. Now I’m not so sure.

I’m planning to deploy a 1B model, feed it all the documents I’ve ever written, host it on a $149 mini-PC in my bedroom, and enable you to chat with it. I’ve released similar projects before. I’ll drop a post about my plans in the coming da

I was just writing up a plan this morning. I use local models a fair amount, especially on trips. My plan is to build a $150 AI bot, host it in my bedroom, give it access to all my writing, and let the world access it.
