Apparently, data centers typically use evaporative cooling (I guess like a Swamp Cooler but on a whole different scale). This is cheaper than using compressed systems like we use on our homes. The water evaporates. At a global level the wat

Nope, I use Opus 4.7, mostly. Sometimes Sonnet 4.6 if I’m trying to use less tokens.

Same. I hit limits after 45 minutes. I'm on a measly Pro plan. I'm usually building small, open source projects, often from scratch. I only work on these projects in a 2-hour window in the morning. This is my "free time"

I kinda assume the dealer does this as part of any service they do. Either that, or they update some other way. My software notices went away when I had my service done, even though I’ve opted out of everything (and verified again after).

I said this elsewhere, but I had trouble with Kia even for an issue covered by recall. Because I hadn’t had the update done, they refused to cover.

This is tangential, but Kia declined to cover an engine failure, under warranty that was extended by recall, because I had not done an update. Edit: I eventually recovered most of the cost via a settlement court.

I would argue that senior engineers, of which I am one, are more of the problem than junior. We build fancy custom components when we should be using the existing ones. Yes, the (senior) product and design people are part of the problem too

This paper is not saying coffee is bad. If anything, it leans slightly toward beneficial or neutral effects. What broader science says (not just this paper). Across many large studies, Coffee is associated with: * ↓ Lowerisk of Type 2 Diabe

It might be. I felt this same way all my life, until 6-months ago, when I found a flavored sugar free mix I actually liked. I returned from vacation in Mexico, where I was drinking Coke with sugar. When I returned home, regular Coke, made w

Yeah, I also wanted to comment on this, though I think it’s technically against the rules. I hit this first on my VPN, so I disconnected, then got asked again from my home wifi. I dunno why I look like a bot to Cloudflare. I hate these prom

You can also use Claude Code in a VS Code terminal window, which I much prefer for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on. Granted, I’ve moved to Zed in the past few months. I’m doing the same there.

Happy to stay in touch. I haven't build one of these in a long time. My website and email address are in my bio here on HN. To answer your question, yes, that's a piezo pickup, if I remember correctly. I don't think I had any

> Classical software engineering would have you believe that dependencies are good (we’re building pyramids from bricks) Would it? I’m old school but I’ve never trusted these massive dependency chains. That’s a nit. We’re going to have t

Since I was a kid I was fascinated by computer math, such as a projectile in Scorched Earth (wind, angle, velocity, gravity). I turned 50 this week and I STILL haven’t dug into how even the basics work.

Oh, yeah. I’ve been meaning to build an electric ukulele. I’ve built some handmade electric guitars, slide guitars and similar. Mine are rudimentary, more akin to a cigar box guitar (if not less complex). Examples: https://photos

I also use clear boxes, called “shoe boxes” at my local big box store. I started 8-years ago, when I devoted a closet in a new house to them. They’re now everywhere. I often answer a lot of questions with, “in the box in the closet”. Even m

Fun read. I was there for most of this, from 1994 to 1998. I have a little different take on what doomed the company. They had the innovation but, because of the class action, they were afraid to release it. I was using the Clik! drive befo

Love the story. I feel like I also rolled the dice more than others. Somehow, I haven’t ever hit. Well, that’s not true, my career has been good to me. Maybe that’s why, but my crazy ideas never seem to work or I give up too early. I wrote

I’ll just throw in a counter example. I turn 50 in two weeks. I programmed for the love of it and eventually turned it into my career. Maybe it hampered my love, a little, maybe. But the job and the passion are still different. I still writ

I’m not Op but I was just looking at these. I jumped on Apple.com and notice the “Mac Pro” option is gone when clicking “Mac”. I don’t know how configurable these were as I think any M-series processor had integrated RAM by design. Anyway,
