I think the point is that the kind of full-stack developer the OP is describing, does.

You could probably have managed to be a bit more constructive.

+1 for node-webkit; I've been having a blast messing around with it lately, it's great stuff. With the pre-built binaries, you can be off and running (with full node support in your browser JS) in minutes.

Well, it's a Linux box the size of your phone that costs $35. Article may be silly but the Pi is a great little device.

We do, but it's not yet released. If you'd be up for it, I'd love some feedback. Hit me up at cnunciato@rhapsody.com.

Right. It couldn't possibly be that 5000 people actually wanted to go.

There's no excuse for wasting your time like this; one can only assume they didn't or don't know how to properly evaluate a design candidate, so they compensated for their inexperience by taking advantage of you. Unprofessional to say the

I work for Rhapsody and helped implement Facebook Music as an initial partner. We don't use Facebook login and have no plans to do so.

The timing of these posts amazes me sometimes. I just turned down an opportunity to join an early stage startup (would've been employee #4, engineer #2, leading a team) that was uncommonly well backed, led by a seasoned founder, and tasked

That was my reaction as well; the author obviously doesn't realize Flash helps photographers protect their work from Google and the right-clickers, which a lot of them actually do care about. I was half-expecting a complaint about View Sour

See, statements like this really get under my skin, because they're wrong in so many overlapping and crisscrossing ways, it's hard to know where to begin in responding to them. First, "Flex/AIR", as you say, doesn't make sense -- there is n

Of course tools and technology definitely matter, and do influence culture, which also matters, but if someone sent me a letter like this one I'd be genuinely relieved it didn't work out.

Amen to that. I did the LA commute (~3hrs/day) myself for several years before quitting. Never again. Now I live in Seattle and ride a scooter to work -- 10 minutes from door to door.

That's because LCDS is a commercial product. Flex itself is not (it's an open-source framework), nor is Flex simply "Flash that uses an integration server."

Not always. Redfin, maybe, since the middleman in that case is really more like an obstruction between buyers and sellers. Publishers aren't an obstruction in that sense. Sure, some of them could probably run leaner operations and give m

Personally I love the idea of authors earning more for their efforts, I think that's great, but there are so many unintended (by consumers, anyway) costs of Amazon using its reach for this kind of thing -- publishers get squeezed, so they p

And even if they did admit to it, that seems about as "damning" as it gets for a site whose value proposition is based almost entirely on its credibility.

Until I realized, just now, that the OP also wrote the article, I felt folks were treating him a bit unfairly. Now, not so much. Pegobry, your point is well taken; I'm an engineer myself, and I agree -- as Web frameworks mature, and engine

Agreed. Of course, the ageism's definitely out there; if you're able to ignore it, good on you. What I can say, though, is that I've learned a hell of a lot more from older programmers than I ever have from younger ones.

You definitely don't need a degree or a cert, that's for sure. Just keep at it and you'll find something. Columbus is no Silicon Valley (althugh it wouldn't hurt to consider relocating to a more geek-friendly city -- we just moved to Seat
