This so much. Sadly, what you describe as the anti-pattern is actually the industry standard. And you don't have to go far to see examples — Slashdot and Reddit redesign come to mind. Both are unusable.

You don't even need any CSS for that — the title attribute alone would be sufficient.

Just because a given CDN uses anycast doesn't mean that they don't also use ECS as well. In fact, Cloudflare CEO's own wording seems to suggest that all of these mentioned providers still need ECS even though they do run any

And, to be clear, this has nothing to do with "classroom". The problem is people design these things without any sort of actual testing in actual conditions where the software is supposed to be used. Displaying 5 results per page

The fact that all these corporations with billion-dollar budgets cannot make their websites work I'll never understand. California population is 40 million folks. It's trivial to have a single dedicated webserver handle 10k reques

The bus factor of one is the movement's ideology itself. If the mob is allowed to take down the leader, do you think anyone else who was sympathetic to the leader and their ideology would feel comfortable taking the place? Or would e

It's really scary how much the cloud is taking away from us. It's not even standardised in any way, little interoperability to export data etc. All magic and things.

Then fork. Why don't they fork? The XFree86 group didn't have an issue forking and disbanding. Yet these people, with projects like Guix that noone has ever heard of, are simply using a GNU name to lobby against the hand that f

There are many good reasons to hate Cloudflare. IMHO, them failing to be the prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner for deplatforming inconvenient content aren't quite one of them.

> I don't understand your point. You feel CF is a trap? Of course it is. If you aren't paying for service, you're not the customer, you're the product. The whole mandatory TLS campaign is part of the lock-in, too.

And the problem is worse because, apparently, even solving the captchas repeatedly from a given IP address doesn't make it whitelisted, either. So, it fits the very definition of discrimination against a whole wider group, where the in

Your comment would make perfect if this whole captcha thing was required in order to post comments. But they require it for static-like content that any decent site should be serving from cache.

Most properties protected by Cloudflare appear to be webpages that could easily be cached without any ill effects, for hours to days or weeks. Why exactly do they need captcha protection?

If you have a proper website without a gazzilion of useless JavaScript frameworks and custom fonts, there's hardly going to be an unacceptable experience latency-wise even if you have to go all over the world to fetch those resources.

The problem is that it's often uninformed choice. Some people at LAX, for example, decided that my whole AS has no business accessing their website. (Yes, an international airport blocking international visitors — how cute.) And Cloudf

It's been shown that Cloudflare's DoH service is a lot ado about nothing, and is actually worse for privacy, not better: * https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21071022 Likewise for 1.1.1.1 — when taking into cons

What exactly do you use DNS for? If it's to subsequently make a HTTP and/or HTTPS request, then your full IP address (and not just a /24 subnet) will be leaked to the very same parties anyways. Even if they eventually make D
