I agree. Like I said, I really enjoy the community and they're pushing hard for innovation -- since I moved away from AS3 and started focusing on JS, I feel like I've become a much better programmer -- but there are just too many variables

I used to really enjoy writing in CoffeeScript, but lately I've been finding that it's much more difficult to read after the fact. As TJ put it -- "word soup".

I hope this site brings a little boost back to the Flash world, especially with Stage3D and all of it's possibilities. Actionscript 3 was such an enjoyable language to code in, though I haven't been able to use it professionally in over a y

Exactly. And I would further argue that the possibility is very high that it will actually decrease alcohol consumption, which as we all know is immeasurably harmful.

I knew neither Ruby nor Objective-C when I started (though I do know a few other languages, primarily JavaScript) and was able to begin legitimately understanding both within just a few days. I feel that, if needed, I could begin writing i

This book by Mikito Takada (mixu) has been the single most important read in my JavaScript development: http://singlepageappbook.com/ Very well written, well explained, and it points to many more best practices.

Same here. But what I did have was real projects to show for and an ongoing interest in languages. The degree question was never an issue. Like the above comments suggest, get a github account together that clearly outlines your interests

Language output is more important than SourceMaps. Coffeescript output is substantially harder to read than TypeScript, and personally I've never had an issue tracking down issues. I'm looking forward to it, sourcemaps or not.

Personally, i write my CoffeeScript with as much syntax as possible, to keep it as readable as possible: as a rule, I always use parenthesis and commas while leveraging CoffeeScript's "good parts". But that said, the last couple of project

Ummm... i'm pretty sure that the devs over at DropBox know their JavaScript inside and out. These "rules to master" are in no way complex to understand.

As a fairly untechnical user, I would like to add that as soon as I figured out how to actually get bitcoins (bitinstant) the process became quite natural and the usefulness apparent.

It just depends on what you want to do. For example, if I wanted to develop a 3D shooter game do you think I would do it in Objective-C, C++, etc? No -- I'd use Unity or Stage3D and then compile to the target. For 90% of the fairly-standa

Quick question: Why do you think that RubyMotion doesn't support Interface Builder? It does, wonderfully, including storyboards. In my last project I used them, along a number of 3rd party libraries like the new Facebook iOS SDK and Urba

I absolutely believe that the process of developing an app with RubyMotion is revolutionary in terms of mobile development. The flexibility of Ruby paired with the interoperability with Obj-C is nothing but a win.

RubyMotion changed the way our entire agency operates: we haven't outsourced a single app in months. It's been the best thing to happen to us, hands down.

Keep it as lean as possible, use CSS3 animations everywhere via libraries like jQuery Transit and avoid jQMobile at all costs; it's a clunky, bloated beast.

Forget ALL of that and use RubyMotion! www.rubymotion.com. Complete Obj-C - Ruby cross-compatibility. Our entire team switched and we no longer outsource anything, nor deal with 1/2 of the bugs. Best company move of our life.

This is a pretty mindblowing app example which is on it's way to the app store: http://clip.ignition.hk/ Lots of low-level stuff there, which is very very impressive.
