Best of luck but try to be cautious in who you trust. Make sure anyone who bites on this offer to work with you is not trying to just take advantage of you because of your age. Is interesting seeing the difference between all the comments

For what its worth, we have been using Cassandra for storing time series for about 2 years now at ~2k writes a sec. I would say every issue was self-induced and Cassandra has been amazingly patient with us. It works amazing with this scen

There are limits though. I don't care how nice the camera is on my iPad, I still want to visit my family for thanksgiving. I don't think the author deemed wikipedia, google and coursera worthless. Its asking the question of why a

I think very few javascript developers only know javascript. This some kind of late 90s C++ elitism or sarcasm?

Ok, so ignoring all moral/ethical issues with this. Wouldn't it just be awesome to work on a project like this? Unheard of funds, tons of data, interesting CS problems all around. I am sure they did everything possible to make it

I would think the grandiose gestures of billion dollar investments are meant to have pretty press releases to try to inflate the stock values.

Isn't comparing against a scripting language apples and oranges? Compiled vs interpreted one would assume to always look like this. Although the modern sophisticated JITs have definitely narrowed the playing field.

umm what? Cassandra is just as fast/faster (depending on both configurations and load) compared to MongoDB with consistant read/writes. Definitely with writes but reads get tricky.

My steam account would sadly fill a 1TB ssd quickly. I also use them at work for a shared development Cassandra cluster which runs awesome but uses a lot of space (albeit we use 512GB drives)

Completely anecdotal and kinda meaningless but I've never had one fail and I've bought 6 drives (ocz and samsung) over last 2 years. Nor have any of my friends/family who own them ever experienced a failure.

Maybe listen to the complaints and adress them instead of just dismissing them as wrong. This article just made me upset, they would of done better just shutting up.

10k isnt really a limit. In linux you should consider it being about 100 for every 1MB of ram (10%) of fs.file-max. 1 million isn't really hard nowadays

Funny considering the main issue we had with EC2 was amazons horrible support. Even spending a lot (lot) per month our only option was to post on the forums and wait. We ended up at Rackspace after a few years of frustrating issues.
