I did this for WebAssembly WAT (an IR that is syntactically similar to lisp) by mapping the AST for my lisp more or less directly to the WAT IR, then emitting the bytecode from there. It was pretty fun.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve in all of pop-science. It often feels like the _vast_ majority of pop-science explanations fall into this category of non-explanation. Watching popular TV shows (say, QI in the UK) about scientific or k

Easy to come by though. I own one. My main concern was when giving email addresses over the phone that people would automatically put .co.uk, but so far that hasn't actually happened!

You can sell the process, tooling, and support. Or, you can take a step back and wonder why it needs a capital solution and not a social one :).

Many mathematicians are (rightly, IMO) allergic to assertions that certain branches are not useful (explicit in OP) and especially so if they are dismissive of attempts to understand complicated real world phenomema (implicit in OP, if you

Margin: https://www.dafont.com/margin.font I too have noticed that these Cooper Black variants with a kinda 60s/70s retro style have become incredibly popular.

Or, it means that funding will be secured in the private sector. Basically by investors that focus on revenue streams (read: extremely expensive private healthcare).

That community is basically the "r/iamverysmart" types bringing their baggage into adulthood. Almost everything I've read in that sphere is basically Dunning–Kruger to the nth degree.

You say that, but if there's one thing I wish more mid-level engineers understood better about good code it's the distinction between simple and easy.

I don't think it's just about latency. Actually I think it's mainly about not diluting the meaning of emergency alerts and opening it for abuse. But yeah, I agree. I think what TFA has run into is by design, and frankly I&#

What is meant by "returning green card holder" exactly? Return from a holiday abroad outside of the USA, or leaving the USA to live elsewhere for some time with no obvious intent to return?

This is like saying Usain Bolt's training regimine is anti-competitive. Leaning into your strengths as an organisation _is competing_.

Which issue was that? Wasn't it just that Apple prioritised battery health over performance? I always thought that fiasco was overblown. They could have been more transparent in the settings though.

It is about the existence or the methodology being obscured, not the contents of an encrypted message. The point of that phrase is to contrast one type of security for another. You and I can know exactly what tool was used to encrypt someth

Something that strikes me about the tone of both the article and comments here is how hard on ourselves we can be. The folks here are of a particular variety too -- pulled in by grand stories of "achievement". The imperfection and

You can do this with wasmtime using either a deadline trap or a concept called "fuel" which is basically a measure of "consumed CPU time" roughly speaking. I have used wasm for a very similar thing (user writing code for

How could this possibly be done for ligatures which don't maintain their horizontal position though? `!=` will usually be shown as an equals sign with a line through it right down the middle.

This is basically the story of my career. It is very hard to argue for DB monoliths, and very common in a distributed microservice architecture for effectively doing joins across a network (with associated N+1 problems).
