The IP "location" doesn't say anything. My Azure IP shows up in Seattle, yet the connection goes to Amsterdam. What you're seeing is where the owner of the IP is located; that is not necessarily the same as the server.

Fast? I don't think a suitable word exists to express the speed of MD5 on GPUs, but here are the numbers: 8213.6 M/s, AMD 7970.

I think I'm going to write my own cloud storage app, to use Azure Storage or something, while encrypting everything on the client.

Though that will result in a lot more calls to Count(). A let would fix that.

You're telling me swapping HDDs and letting RAID rebuild is slower than setting up the server again?! A failed HDD should NEVER, EVER, bring a server down.

Since when is refusing to incriminate oneself punishable with jail time? Last time I checked it wasn't. Refusing to provide encryption keys is the same thing. There might be illegal data, there might not be. It's the duty of the p

What if you DO have something to hide? Company secrets can be very, very valuable for someone.

Couldn't a non-US manufacturer implement it and not officially sell their laptops in the US? Though it's probably not economically viable.

Horrible example. In the case of Osama the US could have broken each and every law in Pakistan and nobody would give a shit. This is about a suspect, at best. Not the world's most wanted terrorist.

Why should I use this over DigitalOcean? One hour on the smallest VPS is .7 of a cent. Bonus: SSD.

Nor do they care about AWS, Linode and anything related to servers for that matter. Yet those domains earn a lot of cash for everyone involved, billions of dollars. There are a shitload more things that matter 10 times more than Angry Birds

Maybe. Until iOS or Android can run the whole of Windows x86 software, Windows will continue to exist and earn shitloads of cash for Microsoft.

They still have a lot of influence in business computing - from PCs to servers. Don't be so quick to dismiss Microsoft.

I am not sure of the official position, but I seriously doubt Mozilla will EVER implement this. They've been opposing H.264, which is a lesser evil (patents) than outright DRM.

To be fair OOXML supports features that have been in Office for a really long time and ODF simply does not. That said, for moving data around, ODF is the format to use; use OOXML only when you need explicit Excel/Word/PPT compatibility.

Note that I submitted a pull request to have JSON.net and ServiceStack.Text as serializers as well. http://www.servicestack.net/benchmarks/

You should really do a test on ASP.NET with JSON.net and ServiceStack Text. The default JSON serializer is hopelessly slow.

Well they've kept constantly adding major missing parts, which likely added a lot to their market. One month, web sites, another virtual machines, then Hadoop. Oh, wait, and mobile services. The list goes on; they've catched up with Amazon

"BizSpark has rules many startups cannot follow" Please explain. The rules seem pretty simple to me and certainly something every company can follow: - Privately held. - Less than 3 years old. - Earning less than $1 million per year

You don't get market share overnight when your platform has 100x less apps. On the same note devs don't want to write apps for WP because it has no market share. See the issue?
