Essentially every regulating agency will have to get their charter re-written and passed through Congress a second time. While that happens, we can expect to see a flood of cases decided under a variety of standards in lower courts. I think

I agree, there's nothing wrong with focusing on profit. The "non-profit" organizations are given tax-exempt status because they are centered around providing a public or social benefit, they explicitly should not be focused o

I work in the healthcare space and hospitals, in my opinion, are motivated by profit. The rise in private equity purchases of hospitals indicates that the money is going somewhere and it's certainly not any kind of "charity".

I would argue it's an understanding of the relationship between the words; an effective internal representation of those relationships. IMHO, it's still quite a ways from a representation of the outside world.

The doctor in the article makes this point a couple of times as well: if the only metrics are "time to close" the particular file or case, that's the only metric they are being judged upon. Cigna clearly decided that they did

In my opinion, this will become harder and harder to do with every release of Windows and MacOS. I wouldn't count on the average customer of these vendors being willing to shop outside of their plaatform's app stores forever.

I wonder if it's the big software vendors who have lost their way, rather than the average software developer. We have companies like Microsoft and Adobe moving to Web based applications not because they are better but because it'

Apple started giving away the development environment because they had such an anemic software ecosystem. They had a handful of OpenSTEP developers and a larger crowd of die-hard Mac people, the successful ones mostly moving away from the p

This seems like trying to come up with an answer to Apple Vision's ability to run iOS apps. If you can install apps from Google Play then you could, if you wanted to, check your email from inside your headset. I'm not sure many pe

This weird comparison with the behavior of old-school cable TV customers had me scratching my head. For sure, people stuck with the same cable TV provider: they had no choice. Most markets had only the one provider. "The data suggests

I wonder how long the feature will be free of charge. Maybe OpenAI really wants the data today, or maybe Logitech is paying the bill, but neither will be the case forever.

Apple had a feature like this, I believe it was inherited from OpenStep, where an application could advertise "services" that would appear system wide. I don't know if it's still a thing, but this workflow of "highl

I have to disagree on the "aversion to technology" point. It's something I've heard ever since I started working in software development, this isn't isolated to healthcare. For sure, there is always some resistance

IMHO, we need structural change in the way US healthcare works. Slathering some AI on top won't solve our cost problems but it will negatively impact our already declining quality of patient care.

There are lots of papers about using some kind of LLM to cut costs and staffing in hospitals. Big companies believe there is a lot of money to be made here, despite the obvious dangers. A quick Google search found this paper, here's a
