I’m pretty sure McAfee scanned AND cleaned viruses? That’s what I remember anyways.

It’s been a while so I don’t remember. I was like 8 or 9 years old. I’m assuming someone somewhere told me about viruses and gave me a copy of McAfee. I remember when it all clicked though. All our computers started acting the same with the

Fun Tandy story. It was the 80s. My parent bought a Tandy 1000 SX for their business. It worked fine for a while, until one day it started randomly crashing, and occasionally showing a little dot bouncing around the screen. They took that t

I came here to say this exactly. It was so short-sighted, and that attitude killed the company.

I uninstalled it immediately when I saw that. Having control of this data is way better than SIM swapping. This seems like a terribly risky thing to install, security-wise.

I really dig it. Great job. It might not be for everyone, but to me it’s a real breath of fresh air.

I use a separate 2.4GHz-only SSID and VLAN for my IoT devices, because I just don't trust them.

Hype. That is why. 99% of web applications don’t need to be SPA. And the majority of the other 1% probably need just a fraction of their app as SPA. Rails gets it right with a Hotwire IMO.

Freescout is really good. Been using it for 2 years with a team of 5-6. Highly recommended.

You should use the same SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. You should also use the same SSID for all APs if they support roaming. Unifi does, for example. If you just get two random independent wifi routers, they won't and you might stay conn

Who are the large Mongo customers? It “seems” like it died 10-15 years ago, but clearly they’re still going.

Based on information publicly available deemed correct and accurate by the company. This is false representation and downright fraudulent. If indeed Twitter lied about their not numbers, there will be a major lawsuit against the company.

Exactly. Falling back to Bash to run scripts makes life easier. Just add a Bash shebang at the top and you're good to go.

I was in a similar situation 2 years ago and I took the plunge. Turns out, the amount I had to rewrite was fairly minimal, and the benefits of Fish are just incredible. I'd say: go for it, you won't regret it!

The new, modern Rails stack is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else out there. Rails truly makes web development enjoyable, fast and effective. It's a shame Ruby and Rails are not getting all the recognition they deserve.

I think it's a bit of both. jQuery served the purpose of making web development more sane back in the day by handling all browser quirks. Part of that was the nice syntax. I personally have tried to drop jQuery, but truthfully, its syn

I discovered a pretty neat alternative to cafes a few years back. I like to go to the food court at my local shopping mall. It's pretty much empty during the day, has plenty of seating, different table heights, outlets, wi-fi, etc. Nob

It seems like these cross-platform solutions always sound good on paper but end up not being so great in real life. To anyone who’s used this already: is it better than say Xamarin?
