I thought of something like this based on license plates a while back. Drivers would send messages (kudos or kurses?) to a license plate's inbox. Anyone could check the inbox, but you'd have to know the plate. I think it'd have to do spee

If you don't click on those affiliate ads often enough and buy stuff, you're no different than the worthless lurkers and adblockers as far as actually funding the site go. Advertising is a nice "turbo boost" for a trickle of revenue. It

Grooveshark looks nice! Pandora's been recycling the same songs too much for my tastes lately, and I'm getting bored with it. I also wish I could easily access the "station logs" later. I like the fair use policy on the copyrights page a

You could use RuntimeException as a superclass for your exceptions, or wrap checked exceptions in a RuntimeException. I'll often rethrow exceptions this way when I have to deal with something horribly wrong (like I/O or UI meltdown, etc.)

I found the article rather sensationalistic, but one of the comments rings true with regard to globalization of knowledge work in general: "...you end up with a barbell distribution – a bunch of those rare people who can work through system

A BugMeNot-like service that does not centrally host any data and therefore cannot control which domains are supported. Two possible approaches might be: 1. Use some sort of generative approach with hashing, salting, and a PRNG. Advantage

Music library is too locked to a single device. If I put podcasts and music on my iPod with Rhythmbox from my work PC, iTunes will happily eradicate everything it doesn't know about as soon as I plug it in when I get home. If I plug in my i

If you jailbreak your iPhone, you're obviously a terrorist interrupting critical systems like e911 -- this will set off a small explosive charge that will fragment the metal casing and internal components to disable the enemy combatant.
