This is so stupid. Spotify pays out over 50% of its revenue to small artists, at a much higher rate than radio did. They dont have much pricing power or margin either.

"Boy am I glad not have consciousness right now" the ant said, as the nearby ants start tearing at him, in the cold pitch black of a nuclear bunker.

Telling people to ignore things they dont like thinking about is completely terrible advice. Its almost the worst possible advice.

Some formats are better than others. The Meta products comparable to GDN (audience network, various banner ad placements in its platforms) also kind of suck. Google wishes they had a feed based website, thats where people respond to direct

IG, TikTok, Meta have a lot of data they can use to do good ad targeting that is harder to apply to Google/iOS apps. Also has to do with the ad format, placement, etc.

This is the other side of ad tracking. Good ad tracking means much more relevant ads. The only advertisers that can afford to run on untargeted ad inventory are lowest common denominator products like teeth whitening and weight loss.

As someone who has worked with many boards and execs, I cannot tell how wrong this way of looking at the world is. Execs universally love working with people who maximize proactivity and strong opinions. The opposite of what you think.

Totally disagree with Paul here. If you are growing up rich, you can take your time with no deadlines. If you grew up with responsibilities, you cant ignore the ticking clock. You have to start working on a career path asap.

This is just wrong. There is a huge difference between having a free press vs not. And while publications like the NY times are not perfect, they pretty much never outright lie, unlike state propaganda.

Claude Plays Pokemon showed that too. AI is bad at deciding when something is "working" - it will go in circles forever. But an AI combined with a human to occasionally course correct is a powerful combo.

Didn't mean to imply is isn't in the article. I came to commentary after seeing the headline. Usually on HN there is a comment that shows why the headline is misleading in some way.

The article also describes him as the kind of environmentalist who makes my eyes roll - a rich person principally concerned with making sure their local area looks untouched and beautiful so they can ride their Ferrari through it.

People dramatically over weight how bad plastic is for the environment. The impact of a 10 min car ride = 10,000+ plastic bags of emissions. And in first world countries almost no household plastic ends up in the environment.

Most Iranians outside of the US hate the regime, so probably were in favor of the bombing of Iran. But best not to talk any politics at work, its better.

I don't understand what people spend their time at work on. I have a very successful career, top .01% income for my age bracket, and never worked more than 40 hours at one job in my life.

Food waste is utterly meaningless to the environmental cost of producing and streaming a TV show. For instance, streaming anything in 4k takes an enormous amount of water and energy.

This may reduce liability but if your answer to someone in crisis is "dont talk to me, call the official number", that will be considered a very negative user experience.
