This raises a very good point, but the Rand quote is sure to polarize people's responses and I personally don't think it's necessary.

That sounds cool. Apparently "Snakes and Lattes" is a cafe in Toronto with this theme, whereas I was thinking of it as being a weekly event. edit: Overall, I think selling coffee would definitely be a good idea, though this would require so

Have you considered running it as a co-op? I think odds are low one person (or entity) would want to buy it outright, but you might be able to get 100 people to buy a stake of it. Just a thought! Similarly, maybe it could have a future as a

Wow. The video was cute but I wish it convinced me that the product would make a bike sounds like a horse. The music was mixed too high to hear it. edit: There's another video on the page that does this, but it's tucked away at the bottom b

It may be hard to find software engineers in the mid-west but it should be easier to find ones working remotely.

Good read! Seems like good advice. It makes sense that graduates from elite schools would be afraid of trying new things, since they're used to success and never had to deal with failure. I never thought of that.

Can someone give a rough range for how much Twitter would cost to buy? Instagram was $1bn, and I'd say Twitter is at least an order of magnitude higher, no?

I agree: a good graduate school can offer a good undergraduate education if you want it to . The ambition to get a good education when it's available (but not necessary) is highly desirable, no?

I'm not sure UIUC and UT-Austin are great examples for second-tier schools, as both are top 10 for graduate CS departments.

I'm not sure the book analogy is appropriate. Books require concerted effort until publication, then nothing (this is changing but still the case, at large). Start-ups require constant maintenance and improvement. Care to comment on that?

That's really cool! Definitely a lot more sophisticated than my approach. Maybe at some point I'll do something like that. For now I plan to add functionality to crawl websites first.
