This is awesome. The transition part especially reminded me of iMUSE ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMUSE ) which creates seamless transitions between music tracks in LucasArts games as you move between areas. This significantly enhances th

Re #1: Calls+textmessages are already completely segregated from data. I'm calling bullshit on this article. HSDPA (3g data) runs on completely different channels than voice calls. Saturation of HSDPA channels will -not- cause calls to be d

I think that both this article and the Wikipedia article are correct. The LA Times took the more human-centric approach to the story, which from a technical perspective was just 'how many and which characters can we cut out to maximize the

Maybe I'm missing something -- if you're I/O-bound why would it matter whether you use epoll() vs poll() other than CPU usage? From what I understand (and how I've used it in my work), one uses epoll() specifically because they're NOT I/O-b

Do epoll / other c10k solutions address I/O-bound situations? I thought that most of these solutions deal with CPU-bound and sometimes RAM-bound situations -- i.e. they fix spending too much time spinning the CPU in various ways waiting fo

I'm generally against any complex lock-free data structures, because they're extremely difficult to prove to be reliable (and I mean prove in ACL2 sense of proof). Have you tried any of the garbage collection libraries for C++? I've never u
