I think the important point on that is that Youtube wouldn't be providing that take-down utility if it wasn't required to do so by the DMCA. Based on that, it is pretty clear to me these in fact are DMCA takedown requests, despite UMG try

I heard the word virtual used to describe the camera, and couldn't figure out if they were, for sure, talking about taking pictures of a single photon in real life -- ergo not simulated. I suspect I misunderstood something. I'm skeptical b

Well if you asked Apple I'm sure they would say they "will allow" open source apps, but that doesn't mean everyone agrees that the legal terms of their app store do in fact allow FOSS. What are other people saying about the Windows 8 Stor

I thought Obama already passed a bill that was supposed to prevent lobbyists->industry shenanigans like this when he first came in to office. I remember it being portrayed as the first bill he signed. Am I misremembering things?

I honestly wasn't surprised to read this, I mean I'm not in favor of it, but look at Apple and the iPhone. They have the same ability, and unless I'm mistaken so does Google and Android. Precedence (of cultural acceptance, not legal standin

If the description of password+number is accurate, then it's a poor solution because it means your password is sent to the bank as opposed to being hashed and the hash being sent to the bank.

This reads like a list of things not to do if you want a sleek sexy product. Not that I'm surprised Apple would instruct their competition to design this way, I guess I was just expecting more subterfuge.

I think the op's point was that the perception of 'GPLers forking BSD licensed code as being bad' is the fundamental misunderstanding of some people using the BSD license. If they want contributions back, they are welcome to add a clause to

I think the problem comes from defining what 'grown up' is, because in my experience it changes depending on who you ask (corporate employee vs consultant).

When you can show me a tcpdump of your password being sent to CarrierIQ I will believe they are capturing your password. All I've seen proof of so far is that it is capable of doing so because of how it is called before everything for anyth

Facebook has repeatedly demonstrated that it has no qualms about infringing on privacy, so I would suggest that further changes to Facebook's Privacy Policy be made opt-in only. Opt-outs should be a privilege that is lost when you repeatedl

Why does fast-forwarding through an ad count as an 'impression' to you? What about if somebody else fast forwards through the ad, or as is more often the case, cuts the ad out completely and republishes the content?

How unfortunate. Ms. Jackson-Lee seems to have fallen for the fallacious argument that every file that was downloaded would have otherwise been bought if piracy wasn't a viable option. This does not bode well for the future...
