Well that depends. If you are operating under the same business model it's not scary at all. Say you need 3 calls to external apis to produce one api reply that you can sell. You just have to make sure that the total cost for the 3 cal

Here is another test: show your mom this video and ask her whether she thinks that the guy is either a genius mathematician or a con artist http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36168863

Maybe this isn't a bad analogy. I'm sure you are aware that Linux is the most used consumer facing OS today (android). So sometimes these prophecies do come true, just almost never in the way you think in advance.

While still a work in progress, the guys at Datt (Decentralize All The Things) are working on a decentralized Reddit alternative that will "run in a web browser and can be used as easily as any web app". What I find interesting ab

Honestly, I don't think that people sitting around is the problem with basic income - it's funding it. Say you are going to give each of the 320M inhabitants of the US $10k per year (that's about the poverty threshold). That

From the article: "Bitcoin-NG addresses the scalability bottleneck by enabling the Bitcoin network to achieve the highest throughput allowed by the network conditions. Paradoxically, not only does it improve transaction throughput, it

I honestly cannot understand that people (left or right) are still discussing basic income. A simple back of the envelope calculation shows that you have to basically double the tax rate to pay for it. Here are the numbers for Germany, but

Can you (or someone else) explain why that simple construction where all outputs are computed in parallel is not believed to work? Is it that quantum computers have bounded parallelism in some sense?

I hope you are right. One would really have to think about how to give users more control over the content they see. Allowing mods to tweak the sorting algorithm is a great idea to do this by the way. Ultimately I think it is wrong that peo

That is true. In a sense that is the truly democratic effect: more people care about pop music than intellectual discussions (obviously our system would be a twisted form of democracy where money==votes; then again that's too different

Love the idea. We are working on something similar, but without the decentralization at this point. In our system users can invest bitcoin in a post by upvoting it. If that post gets many upvotes subsequently the investor will make a profit
