I just tried this in VSCode using Intelephense and it detected the invalid syntax just fine ("PHP 5.4+ syntax found."). I've never done PHP development, but it only took a few clicks to set it up (install extension and go in

This reminds me of the story Steve Yegge told about Emacs powering Amazon's customer service for years: > Mailman was the Customer Service customer-email processing application for ... four, five years? A long time, anyway. It was w

To expand on this, I’d totally support regulations requiring states to maintain some level of supply chain independence and diversity of software and hardware between them, to improve resilience against attacks.

For me a big difference would be not sending my data to Google. Even Lineage OS still sends a bunch of data to Google all the time. If you’re not careful it sends location data, DNS queries, etc. I want a mobile OS that gives me complete

You’re going to miss a lot of talent by reading too much into peoples’ resumes. There are dozens of possible explanations for any given bullet point that range from horrible to excellent. Trying to draw too many conclusions from a resume

I agree that it's not black-and-white. It's also not as dramatic as the land analogy suggests. There are plenty of other email providers that are perfectly socially acceptable to use.

What is it about Safari that leads to it performing better than the competitors, and why can't they seem to figure it out? Is it because Safari is using undocumented APIs that only Apple is allowed to use? If so, that's a deal br

We see it with whatever is trendy, lately it's been Rust. I don't see anything wrong with it, usually people are proud of it because they used the project as a way to learn a new technology, which is why it's in the title (I

I think the Go docs can be more discerning about when to use channels and when to use shared memory. The broad advice of "share by communicating" is too broad, too many people learn Go and think they need to use channels and CSP

The problem is that you can’t leave any room for interpretation, because governments generally interpret things as liberally as they can in their favor, to the brink of absurdity. In other words, “encryption” needs to be listed there as a r
