You assume there is a surplus. If I tell you at the beginning of our conversation 'The salary for this position is between $80K and $120K depending on your experience, education, and demonstrable skill etc'... Throughout the cours

That's a bit strange. It's like buying milk. I couldn't tell you exactly how much I could buy a gallon of milk for right now (without looking it up). But I could tell you that it is for around five or six dollars. I could

I fully agree. At the time my assumption was that candidates had a pretty good idea what a 'normal' salary range is for a position. I was wrong.

Of course not. But every role has a range, more or less, which is a balance of the value that role creates vs the alternatives in the market. The range is due to factors such as the risk an individual embodies based on previous experience

The code or the actions? I'm all for holding people accountable for bad actions but I don't think that writing code is enough of to show intent to harm.

Whether it is a coder that knows how to speak design or a designer that knows how to speak code, that translator role is absolutely crucial. Without you there to bridge the gap, product creation might have ground to a stop.

I made the mistake of hiring a designer that had no idea how to code. It was a special little hell.

I don't need a designer who can literally sit down and code with the best of them; I need a designer who knows enough about coding to know what is practical. Just like I don't expect an building architect to pick up a hammer, I ex

It is a zero sum game so that statement cannot be true unless you mean over time and in different places. If that is the case then it is a great argument for coming up with a set of rules beforehand that both parties agree is fair.
