The algorithm used here is a combination of both rc and tracing, it's not simple.

yeah. But for multithreaded I figure there's little chance I can do better than Boehm (especially considering the testing involved in this).

Ah that makes sense. I did the "non thread safe" version of this paper for our webassembly support (Because at the time, Boehm didn't support it) https://github.com/remobjects/IslandRTL/blob/mas

Quite cool. But I miss the part where you can actually use the objects themselves to store something in. What's your goal here? To have a real usable gc, becuase if so, it should probably allocate outside the Go heap, and directly from

Until they close that "hole" on osx too. Given the ever longer list of restrictions, like notarizations, on OSX in the name of security features.

Well considering the future of apis on osx and iOS is swift, any language that wants to target those needs to be able to talk to swift in the future. My compiler can do basic interop with swift now, but it's pretty much undocumented, u

How does this work? Is this related to the guest post spam we get daily for our blog on RemObjects.com?

Curious enough; we're working on just that, a commercial compiler and ide for Go. A go compiler that can compile for .NET, native Windows, native Linux and native OSX. Haven't done much performance analysis yet, the IDE and and co

RemObjects Oxygene does. All targets have a GC (boehm on win32,64, Linux and Darwin, .net and java have their own of course) or arc (cocoa).

Should have been 'have'. Oxygene, FPC (freepascal) and Delphi are 3 different Pascal compilers which all have solved most/all of these problems.

Problem there is that it would disallow Type.Staticmember or Type(value) kind of casts, which do exist in most Pascal languages.

The pointer alias requirement is something we got rid of in our language (oxygene). We even allow defining method pointer types inline, though I wouldn't ever do that myself in a method signature, it's quite useful inside a struct

We're working on making the osx target be able to compile locally, but it's a slow process. A beta backend can now create osx executables from windows without running osx. There however are a lot of things that are closed tools th

Amazing, our Oxygene compiler, Delphi and FPC has solved all of these issues ages ago, perhaps it's time to let this article go after all this time. - 2.0 Types and scopes: Apple = type Integer; makes it a distinct type - 2.1 Array siz

This seems more like discourse, a forum than slack, chat? One thing that often happens in chat is general talk like weather. Would that go in a topic here too?

I did end up going the way of writing that compiler and never writing the thing I wanted to write the compiler for, even forgot what it was. But it was and is a good experience, the last 13 years of writing a compiler. Especially if you lik

Does anyone know if godot can be used as a 3d engine from c# too? Specifically as part of an existing application instead of a game?

Yeah I've written compilers for Swift, C#, Java, JavaScript and Pascal and agree Pascal is the cleanest and nicest language, both on the parsing side and writing in.

Most compilers sort of work this way, except that they don't have an intermediate format. They take source, turn it into tokens, turn it into a tree of sorts, run several passes over it till the end result is reached (whatever the targ

Usually they show up here: https://opensource.apple.com https://opensource.apple.com/release/developer-tools-81.html for example. Sometimes takes a while to show the latest version though.
