Isn’t it possible to click that checkbox next to one’s email to deregister it from iMessage from the Message app on a Mac? I was under the impression it’s [1] possible but I’m away from my Mac to check. Worse case one could change one’s App

Wait… it works in iOS Safari by tapping on the bookmarklet icon in the Bookmarks panel or under Favourites. Can’t get it to work in iOS Firefox tho.
