I also enjoy Tim Ferris, but other great alternatives are Mr Money Mustache and Cal Newport. Their particularly good as they concentrate on maximising money/happiness and time/concentration.

Why is it considered ok to regulate technology without understanding it? Even Jeremy Hunt claims to understand the papers he used to justify more weekend services for the NHS. Osborne tried to justify austerity as an answer to the recession

I personally enjoy his style. MMM is clearly a character that he plays and is deliberately provocative. There are other more level headed financial independence blogs out there but I don't find any of them as entertaining as MMM.

His point of view is that those perks don't justify the commute. I'm personally inclined to agree with him having tried both. There's a fair amount of research suggesting short commutes are good for mental health and the effe

I'm not suggesting there is one, I'm deliberately not taking a view on that. What I am saying is that if one does exist, as some commenters are saying, we're likely still not there yet as many other similar industries have fa

You might not expect the gender and ethnic background proportions to 100% reflect society (I won't get into that) but even if that's the case Software Engineering is far more skewed than most comparable industries (science academi

Today I finished unfollowing everything on my fb feed. Now it's just 5 or 6 ads, some relevant, some not. I'm curious to see if this cures the addiction.

The airline industry is on the whole a zero sum industry, but there's a huge difference in profits/losses between the many airlines worldwide. So some do make huge profits while most struggle constantly.

I don't think the parent was referring to making money via start ups. Just get a decently paid engineering job and live frugally.

If you're genuinely spending £400 pcm on just food then you really need to sort your budgeting out. Especially in retirement, when you've way more time to cook big meals and freeze stuff.

The company I work for at the moment has two values/myths that have worked really well at preventing situations like this. Early on, just before I joined at around the 150 person stage, the employees self organized values. One of these
