As always, right in the middle of an AWS VPN problem and network issue that we're having. What's broken? Everything!

There were tool anchoring rules way before that, going back to the 1960s.

Indeed. And it doesn't work. Look at the sheer number of near world destroying accidents our military have managed to muster over the years. I was actually working for a company that was a subcontractor to the USAF in the distant past.

I watched an interview with him and apparently the reason was it worked out cheaper!

Yes. Exactly. Also SSDs scare me more. MLC disks have so many states stored in a capacitor that is trusted not to leak over the lifetime of the device. All it takes is a few electrons to go walkies and it’s game over.

That’s fine but most of us are running on NTFS, HFS+ or ext4 where it matters. And then there’s the same problem with MLC SSDs which are just arrays of capacitors encoding that state as different charge potentials. As a former EE, capacitor

I ran a lab notebook in word for a number of years and the document got fried by a filesystem error. The backup was toasted as well. This was corruption which broke the stage machine or parser in word which acted as a damage amplification.

I agree. Another failure mode is that of my sister in law. She spent ten years throwing pens, pencils, paper, Lego, books, all in the bin because they make a mess. Everything creative was an inconvenience. Her eldest is in and out of prison

The only bug I know of that actually annoys me is on the recommended music in the music app, when you click on the artist it redirects you back to the recommended playlist rather than the artist. I really have had no other problems, which i

Yes. The phrases "menu" and "software update" are what kills all tactile electronic instruments of various kinds. This is the same for electronic test equipment as well. There are so many features crammed in new devices,

This sort of stuff scares me so much. I see many people relying on one basket of eggs all the time (AWS is a fine example) with no backup plan. I’ve actually considered running my own mail server again now DKIM/DMARC is around.

Couldn't agree more. UK here as well and there is a rather idiotic culture of social and binge drinking which I got into in the mid 1990s driven by "the pub" and "the club". I quit alcohol entirely in 2002 (15 years

Sorry I was being rather facetious there. They have VSM available (Application Guard). This is only on Enterprise edition because you know, only enterprises need a decent threat protection model...
