I think you are projecting your extensive experience with the review system onto the everyday buyer. eBay asked the shopper to review her transaction: overall her experience was negative (not enough postage) so she gave a negative review.

You get new bitcoins by creating a new block in the block chain (mining). If there are no other transactions in the block that's fine. The first block is known as the Genesis block. You might find this useful: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Ge

"Widely accepted" isn't a binary value. As adoption increases bitcoins gain value. That's what justifies the price. The problem is deciding just how much adoption implies how much value.

It makes it harder to accumulate wealth. This may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view. Taken to an extreme, it's move back to hunter-gather societies when you had to work every day - no stored capital.

The barrier to entry is in gaining the adoption.

I imagine this will happen via Payment Service Providers first. Merchants that don't want to manage their own payment code outsource it to some third party company. Those PSPs compete and one dimension they compete on is breadth of payment

Which provides an interesting way to value BTC. If the total value goes much over the cost of a 51% attack then it is overvalued.

The proof of work is proportional to the length of the message, so it is computationally difficult to send such long messages.

It's an MVP. No point in writing all that validation code just yet - most people understand that you actually have to fill the fields in.

It would depend on how frequently you invested and the offset. For example, monthly on the 23rd of the month would give you one return, whereas weekly on a Tuesday would give you another. But given that 1 BTC is ~ 20 USD at the moment and t

Your argument that it wouldn't be available on other boxes can be applied against any new command, no matter how fantastic, so it doesn't seem very constructive to me.

Something that many of these answers fail to address is that a 256-bit key isn't big enough, if you can do 2^128 computations. This is due to the probability of key collision. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_attack Not that I'm

Sure, I can relate to that. In the early eighties computer magazines had huge listings of code which I dutifully typed in. They never worked worked first time as I'd invariably mistyped various characters, but the subsequent bug finding tau

How about a single unconstrained text area? Do you really need to break the address up into lots of little bits? If so, why? Because you have different costs / taxes for different states / countries? Fine, have separate fields for those, bu

I've heard this said many times before and I agree. However, using crypto libraries does not solve the problem of vulnerabilities through cryptography misuse. For example, keys must be stored correctly, algorithms often need initialising in
