So two questions: 1. What's the penalty for bail-jumping in the UK? 2. Is Sweden's statue of limitations really written such that an accused can avoid trial by hiding for five years? Do statue of limitations in other countries com

To clarify, I think hybrids are great and electric cars are great. I think it's wasteful to take a hybrid and mostly use it as an electric car. Specifically, in the linked article they are trumpeting increased electric range in the Vol

The worst of both worlds: (1) If you rarely use the gas engine, you are wasting electrical power hauling around a gas engine and gas tank (2) If you often use the gas engine, you are wasting gas hauling around extra-large batteries.

California doesn't burn coal. It's mostly natural gas and some oil. Natural gas is a very efficient fuel in terms of CO2 output.

I'm mystified by a few things in this article. Specifically, why are scrapyards closing? The first thing the article names as a cause is the currently low price of scrap steel. Ok, but then what happens when a ship gets too old to use

California plans to change to "time-of-use" pricing of electricity [1]. How will that affect the savings currently seen by folks who lease from SolarCity and other providers? [1] http://www.usatoday.com/story/

The problem isn't political, it's economic. Water shipped to farmers is sold at very low cost compared to the cost of desalinated water. As far as I know, which isn't much, the only desal plants in California[1][2] are those

Not mentioned is that much of the tap water in the US tastes much worse than it did 30 years ago due to increased standards which require water districts to add more and more cleaning agents to the water. Cleaner tap water leads to greate

Intentionally pissing off people is childish. Using the name of this language in a workplace creates a hostile working environment[1]. That guarantees that no sensible person in the English speaking world will ever use the language at work.

While you are correct that you can nuke a normal SSD in a month, you can buy high-endurance drives which will last much longer. For example, you can buy a p400m with 7.5PB of write endurance [1]. It's just a question of making sure you

That's incorrect. Charge leaks very slowly out of cells. It's not a big issue, but it does happen. Powered-on SSD firmware knows about the problem and will maintain the cells. [1] http://www.anandtech.com/show/
