The first reply at http://groups.google.com/group/clojure/browse_thread/thread/... goes into pretty good detail from the language designer. The short version is that it's a limitation in the JVM currently that he's hoping is removed some

One thing to try might be to put together a portfolio of some kind. This way you can show people that, yes, I can do X, Y and Z and here's the proof. Good recommendations certainly don't hurt either. I'm going to take a guess that just st

Interestingly enough, there are already requirements on federal agencies to purchase from small businesses. http://www.sba.gov/contractingopportunities/index.html I'm not sure how much gamesmanship goes on with larger companies using smal

I think the math works, but the difficult part is what the minimum amount of time needed to know if you're going to succeed or fail. If you knew that, or even in the ballpark you'd have something you could apply. Otherwise it's hard to sa

There's this push/pull kind of relationship in all sorts of areas. I interned as an Intel performance engineer working with Microsoft products and it seemed to be the case where you'd try really hard to get Intel products into the relevant

Are use of drugs like these prevalent in the startup world? I can imagine it has to be pretty tempting. Plus there's the added incentive that you already (should?) have pretty productive people and stacking another multiplier on top of th

I remember reading through some Nehalem articles mentioning that Intel will actually beat AMD to the CPU/GPU on the same package with AMD delaying Fusion. Ah, here it is: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=34... Of

Hmm, from some brief research it does seem a bit of a gray area. I guess the part that makes me think it would be OK would be the lack of "consideration" involved in playing (You're not required to pay or buy anything to play and there's no

Hi Joel, One thought I had might be to use some of your ad revenue as a prize pool each week/month/etc. That way people could play with the potential to earn some real money. Hopefully it snowballs so that you can offer bigger prize pools

I'm guessing they're actually doing pretty well in this situation. I'd hazard to guess that a lot of their revenue comes from subs in the US and Europe (aka dollars and euros). As inflation goes crazy on Icelandic krona, you figure the sa

I've been a bit curious on how serious the "stay in Pennsylvania" part is. Are they heavily enforcing it, hasn't really been an issue, etc? I'm guessing for the HN crowd here, not being able to head West after something like this might be
