Frankly I find the whole blog post silly. All OSes/software have trade offs. It's just a question of what is important to you. I'm primarily an Ubuntu user but I have one Windows machine. There are things in Windows that just

I don't understand the wrong screenshot fear. Can't you confirm it's the right one once you select it and see the preview to the right?

I always find these interesting. Like the different pronunciations of `char`*. All these strange words that we only read or type 99% of the time but still come up with some kind of pronunciation in our heads. * I've heard "char&qu

Sure. I had a lot of meetings at Netflix (was there for 5.5 years, left in July). I had almost no meetings at Microsoft (was there for 3.5 years, left 10 years ago). This was just my experience. These are large companies so there is really

You linked the same image twice. I'm curious what the other image was. edit: nevermind, switched to dark mode using the dev tools. It looks like this just to be complete: https://i.imgur.com/qPv7guO.png

I think it depends on the company. I've worked at two megacorps, one where meetings were absolutely nonstop and the other where I had about 2 a week.

Some feedback: the typeform form for the 10 questions was a little hard to use. Only one question allowed using shift+enter to insert new lines, but all of the long form questions would have benefited from this. For most of the questions, I

Thanks! I am using MDX for the articles. I don't really like it though. MDX is fiddly and causes some headaches here and there. I am exploring other options. The MDX files are here: https://github.com/city41/mattgr

Ah yeah, I forgot about that one. Interesting two of their issues were both related to analog sticks.

My output is HTML and CSS, but my stack is React with Next.JS. I just tell Next to not emit JS at build time. This is the best of both worlds. You get an excellent dev experience with TypeScript, fast refresh, the world of React components

It's a double edged sword though. The gimmicks Nintendo comes up with can make their games not as good as they otherwise would have been. The Wii motion control for Zelda sword attacks and the touch screen levels in Super Mario 3D Worl

As far as I know, the Switch Joy Cons drift problem is the only hardware issue Nintendo has ever had.

Netflix does well here too (I worked there for 5 years). There are no levels for ICs at Netflix. You can hop over to the management track if you like which does have levels. But ICs can grow and take on more responsibility by their own voli

This is really cool. I like domain languages like this a lot. I basically hand rolled a very primitive version of this for a game I made. I wonder if game devs in general would find it useful for prototyping, game jams, etc. Just FYI to the

Especially for a hobby project. So what if you never finish or it never gets used for anything "real". Taking on crazy challenges can be really fun.

I agree with you and I really enjoy the flow you can get into with s-expressions. But in my experience this frustration is typically viewed as very different and foreign from the frustration more mainstream languages bring. I think one reas

To not go absolutely insane with Lisps, you need some kind of parentheses tool with your editor such as ParEdit. The up side is once you get used to your tool, you can do really cool things and navigate/change code in higher level ways

Always wished when passwords approached double digit territory that the devs would have sprung for the battery save. I always liked how Turbo Grafx did this. For many games if you had the Turbo Booster Plus or CD add on, you could save your

That tailing took place years ago. Nintendo has never been kind to anyone using their IP in ways they don't like. I love Nintendo, but there's no denying they can be very fierce and litigious.

The G3 era was still when Mac hardware was extremely expensive for what you got. The premium has come down a lot over the past couple decades (not counting a certain set of wheels, of course).

I seem to get about 50 or so entries that play, then nothing for many minutes. If I refresh, I get another burst of entries. Possibly HN is hugging the site to death?

Going by that criteria then I'd give the nod to Sony. Their dual analog sticks was really the game changer and has gone on to be the standard.

Yes, you need to buy the game before you can play it on Stadia. If it was like Netflix, I think it'd be far more compelling, even with a relatively large monthly fee.

It did have a keyboard released in Japan https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/Nintendo_64_Keyboard No idea how realistic it'd be to get it working with Linux.
