We use jOOQ, and love it. But sqlc also makes nice trade offs. I see it does Kotlin generation: if this lib was around when we picked jOOQ, I's certainly had considered it. Differences: * jOOQ is an eDSL with an optional schema-to-clas

What is a build for? The article does not really articulate it. * Dependency management (use libs so you dont have to write/maintain that code yourself) * Code generation (we use that for added typesafety: jOOQ the SQL eDSL, and OpenAP

ORMs only make easy things slightly easier. Complex queries are not expressable in ORMs, so you need SQL queries (usually as strings, in external files or generated with a tool like jOOQ/LINQ). I think just doing all with SQL is easier

With server-side only you need only one place to keep state. Then you have a stateless webserver that needs to persist all to a db. Those constraints make software easier. React is just the view part in the browser. You still needs state ma

Just VC money buying good press. PHP still shit. Not valley bros, just engineers that have worked many hours with several wildly different languages simply know what works well.

A jooq-like for TypeScript (as vanilla JS would kind of defy jooq's purpose) would be really nice. I'm not sold on ORMs. They make the easy queries slightly easier, and have no solution more complex queries. Not worth the learning

If you invest you want some control. The law is very clear (lots of preceding cases) on your power as an investor in case of equity investments. In case of w-coop investment constructions as you mention the law is very unclear. Hence usuall

It's inherent to the way a coop works that it's not possible to follow the same path. There is no 7% equity to be given, only the repayment of a loan. The coop model does not promote taking risk and hence have many fail, yet a few

My experience scaling up Rails (mostly in size of codebase NOT in size of traffic) really made me love typesafe languages. IDE smartness (auto complete, refactoring), compile error instead of runtime, clear APIs... Kotlin is a pretty nice &

Chargebacks are a creditcard thing. In some countries people are willing to pay with methods that do not allow chargebacks. Also chargebacks do not work for wiretranfers. So you can ask them to do a wire transfer instead
