I had noticed some threads about this on stringi/r. Glad to hear its more systemic!

Is tidyverse still fundamentally license incompatible with everything? Last I checked, it included both gpl2-only, and gplv3+, modules. That prevented my company from releasing code that we wanted to. (this is really a pervasive problem acr

I really liked fltk. Only annoyance was that fluid (the fltk ide-of-sorts) had esc be cancel in the code editor dialog; I use vi most of the time. With fluid, muscle memory obliterated a lot of code

The biggest mistake I've made, once myself, and once inheriting a network someone else passed on to me: Picking a theme that's too small. I inherited a couple servers "jules" and "vincent" [after the Pulp Ficti

The thing that I don't get is, why that drug? What made it worth picking to do a study? Out of however many hundred of thousands of drugs on the market, who thinks "this one for gout, maybe it's the one"?

I got curious about a lauded 65 year old paper my company (a nonprofit research shop) released and tried to reproduce the results. I failed (not by much, and not enough to change anything, but what should have been incredibly precise... Was

Being fired for this sort of thing sucks. This also sounds like an opportunity for an awesome person to spread their wings now they're out from under what sounds like a pretty oppressive system

Ah, I missed that part. No, LD_PRELOAD isn't going to be able to overwrite statically linked functions

Halfway through the article when he finds stat is the problem, I was surprised he didn't just solve it with a hastily coded LD_PRELOAD shim and move on with his day. I'm routinely working with Fortran that predates my birth. If I

Because if you don't have an offering that'll make it do something interesting OOB, it's unlikely anyone would buy it. [bootstrapping from true scratch is typically a nightmare for hobbyists] I shouldn't be quite so nega

NVidia don't see the point. There are a few forum threads where NV respond "why do you even want that" or "you can get ubuntu 20.xx from a third party".

If you don't need CUDA, then save money, heat, and support issues associated with a second-string product and just get a rpi4. The entire point of the Jetson is that there's a non sucky GPU that can do AI at the Edge.

I did switch mine to LXDE, but it was a faff to do and took ages. I imagine the only way to make this thing slower is to swap to an SD card. I'm not doing anything with mine that involves OpenCV, I didn't realise one of its flagsh

I have a Jetson nano. It's a nice thing for what it is, and the price. But, the software misses the mark by a lot. It's still based on Ubuntu 18.04. Want python later than 3.6? Not in the box. A lot of python modules need compilin

I have a Jetson nano. Really disappointing device. The cpu is terrible. I bought it to experiment with reinforcement learning, with a model with low, but non trivial, cpu needs. Unfortunately it's so non performant that I never was abl

I just gave a briefing today where I work, that had two conclusion slides: On the first, "None of this matters", and on the second "I've no idea". One the one hand, that's pretty nihilistic. On the other hand,
