It's not an article in The Economist ; it's a post from one of their blogs on the site.

This isn't interesting anymore; Erlang and Prolog simply aren't related beyond the most superficial of syntactical rules. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3542891/erlang-programmin...

Plenty of languages were initially prototyped in C, but we don't consider them "based on C" because they kept braces. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3542891/erlang-programmin...

Obliged to respond, even if this is from two years ago, as a lot of our work is in Erlang... 1) is completely wrong; Erlang doesn't have anything to do with Prolog, and the syntax is actually pretty straightforward. 2) is for the most part

This statement only reflects a poor understanding of what it means to be "based on Prolog". I know Prolog well, and use Erlang every day, and I can tell you that they share nothing in common beyond the most superficial of commonalities. ht

When someone says $300 million dollar company, it doesn't mean a company with $300 million dollars of revenue or profit per year. Generally, it means the valuation (based on any number of measures, ie. acquisition price, last traded price

Good stuff. Compared to the more "popular" generic behaviours like gen_server, gen_fsm doesn't get a lot of attention. It's nice to see it added to your tutorial with this level of detail.

I used to think the same thing about people here on HN, but I realized that a lot of accounts are tied to peoples' real names (and professional lives). So there's a filter that keeps people from discussing anything outside of politically-co

My favorite landing page is the one for Buckyballs ( http://www.getbuckyballs.com/ ). Thanks to it, I'm sure they moved a lot of product on the day Google doodled "buckyball".

These are hard problems to solve, even approximately, and nothing we're doing is original. Like quantitative finance, a lot of the original research comes from outside the field (ie. "quasi-clique detection in protein-protein interaction ne
