A lot of people claim this is nit picky but I disagree. Especially in the context of job descriptions. I would entertain a job that involved C development but I would be very hesitant to to entertain one for C++

A lot of managers suck, a lot are dead weight but the good ones, the very few good ones are invaluable.

I have never actually gotten a job from LinkedIn, the social media aspect is the most potent form of cringe. I really should delete it too but I just never log in.

I shipped an international package with USPS today and there was an option to add an email. I used my email address with a .family TLD. They couldn't add the email, they said the system was telling them it was an invalid email. Inaccur

Fair point, in my attempt to throw shade at domain squatters I seemed to forget that countries and languages exist. (I really hate domain squatters...)

This. I've heard countless times that Postgres is better and I've watched talks where they show how loosey-goosey MySQL is with some things but I know how to backup, restore, tune, secure and replicate MySQL. I grok it's perm

Again, I don't still know if this is the case, but you could use smaller instances with MySQL aurora than with Postgres, given the way our application worked it would have made a big difference for us if we had used mysql. RDS/Aur

I dunno if this is still true but a couple of years ago MySQL was cheaper on AWS (RDS/Aurora) than Postgres.

Why the downvote? Is it really acceptable for the machine reading your passport at the airport to have bit flip? Or the person processing you at the DMV, the doctor reading your medical history, or a million other things that power the mod

We don't take bit flips seriously enough, practically every consumer device uses non ECC memory, very few folks use filesystems (e.g. ZFS) that can detect corrupt blocks. Even when using those things together it's still not perfec

Forgive me if I sound dense but you would still want a password to unlock the private key, right? Otherwise, authentication is just "something you have" not "something you know + something you have." In which case, this

Upon further reflection perhaps this is the most American thing that could be done... The folks who got in early and made millions in Crypto reaped the benefit but no new comers could ever realize the same potential because we've taxe

Wow, taxed based on how you use your computer huh? Doesn't sounds very American to me. What's next, taxed for fuzz testing? Taxed for using inefficient programming languages? FWIW I do not support the crypto space either, but if t

I really really like SourceHut but it's lack of Pull Requests (and to some degree Organizations) are the only blockers I have for using it for both personal and work purposes.

Aside from the dual NICs and dual m.2 slots, with no out of band management and no ECC memory this just seems more like a NUC to me.

It looks like they're closing "Pull Requests"? Has Laravel never had "Issues" on Github? The missing "Issues" link on the repo is the only odd thing that sticks out to me.

What's the use case for such a header? User agents (browsers) tallying up an estimated C02 emissions for a session? That'd require a lot of buy in from sites and I don't expect many to adopt this or give out that info. Also,

I recall around 2010 or so, when a company I worked for was creating a new, rather ambitions, web application. I had to argue against using Java Applets in favor of standard web technology for several components. Thankfully I won that battl
