If you think that's weird, compare it between common fonts: https://unicode.org/emoji/charts-11.0/full-emoji-list.html#1... Disregarding the "browser" column (could be anything, it's what your

A bigger deal happens with ambiguities concerning composed versus decomposed characters. Linux and Windows tend to prefer writing composed characters, whereas Mac OS will prefer writing decomposed characters. The letter é will have two dist

Well, now we're gonna get nitpicky :) Unicode is plain text, therefore emoji are in the set qualified as "plain text." "ASCII text" may be more accurate.

Technically speaking, no, HN doesn't render any titles. Your browser is displaying U+1F97A, which is sent over-the-wire as the bytes \xF0\x9F\xA5\xBA (UTF-8 encoding).

If I zoom in, maybe. At default text sizes, it's indistinguishable from all other emoji faces for me.

Unfortunately, the C locale will not achieve your goal: UTF-8 will be merely a subset of what you support, rather than getting rid of it.

Thanks for the explanation. Emoji to me might as well be Chinese characters. It's just a "thing" I can't read.

AsciiDoc is written in Python. Though when it comes to annoyance with Markdown forks: AsciiDoctor is basically that to AsciiDoc. It's mostly compatible, but when it isn't, it really bites.

Ventoy is a fairly common source of trouble from people trying to boot ReactOS. It's a nice, well, toy, but its compatibility with various OSes is spotty at best. You're much better off just writing a real CD-R or USB stick with t

DOS was well on its way out (and probably a minority already) on PCs in 1996. It was all about Windows 95 at that point. I get the author's intention of "like it's $DAYSGONEBY", but 1996 is a rather odd choice when it do

Yes, but 95+98+2000 were basically all of the same design philosophy, so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when something was not changed from 95.

GNOME's been pretty damn usable with Wayland since around 2015 or so. Enough time that I can distinctly remember three Debian stable releases that run it by default.

KDE Connect is indeed amazing, definitely a "killer feature" (albeit one not exclusive to the KDE desktop -- I run GNOME and still integrate with my phone via KDE Connect). It makes so much sense, I don't know why Google or a

What use case is that? I looked over the README, including the parts where it claims to do things Make can't (I don't agree with much of it). I remain unconvinced that it supports use cases Make can't.

It should be no surprise that Facebook works on projects that benefit Facebook. By making it free software, it also happens to benefit the wider world at the same time. Win-win. Is your problem with the idea that developers are getting paid
