I would like to see a more extensive benchmark against some of the more popular servers like unicorn, thin, and maybe even the framework sinatra.

While this is a work in progress I think rails could learn from it. The use of eventmachine at the core for handling requests and responses is brilliant. I hope to see more of this in the future.

Summary: Reduce memory by running less processes Use the right tools for the job I think. If you've got a vps with 256-512mb do not run heavy process forking applications when something else has been written exactly for this situation. I'm

I am interested in this game simply to learn python. It's always the projects that inspire and excite you in which you make the greatest gains.

Agreed. Nothing worse than pulling a tape only to find out the backup was incomplete. It happened, it was painful, someone got fired for it. We check for errors while dumping databases, do md5sums after on the local machine and then again o

Burning out sucks. Sorry I couldn't think of a more articulate way of putting it. I've been through that experience and am just trying to find some level of normalcy in IT where I can be a high achiever yet still live my life. It doesn't he

I have to agree with this. If you have to process 10k submissions in a very short space of time, why have overhead of storing it in the db right then and there when you can asynchronously process it later. If you want something interesting

I can feel the shift from ops to devops happening and can see it everywhere. More managed hosting solutions are coming out, you can upload your code to the cloud and it just works. While this is great for devs, its a bit tough on us ops. Wh

I joined after seeing a story on techcrunch about the redesign. I had never heard of it before. I am extremely fond of the new design. Its simplicity really appeals to me and I've been using it everyday for 5-6 weeks. Previously I was using

Apache, truly a great web server and still truly underestimated. People immediately switch to things like lighttpd or nginx when they start to feel perfomance issues coming on. Yet Apache gives you many different mpm's to choose from, worke

I'm sure this is no unfamiliar territory for anyone in dev or ops, especially in a startup. My boss is what I like to regard as the master of all trades and even with his 15+ years of experience has the odd hiccup in the production environm

An apology in this situation is like giving the kid a towel rack. Giant corporations apologize to cover themselves, that does not make up for what they did and it's not going to change the way they act in the future.

I will usually scan newest once I'm done reading through the top 1-60. Everyone has differing tastes and so the stuff that I like to read doesn't always end up on the front page.
